Topic: A Present for Members

https://i.postimg.cc/nzTdN4gc/christmas-gift-ideas-FB.jpg

I installed a little Christmas present for members on the board.

It is a new feature that has multiple capabilities.

I will wait for you guys to spot it and we will discuss everything it can do.

Re: A Present for Members

Took me 3 hours Christmas Eve to make the necessary code changes

Re: A Present for Members

The above was the Christmas Eve present

I installed another and that is the Christmas morning present.

All are visible form this screen where you are reading this post.

Re: A Present for Members

There is one hidden feature I bet nobody will find.

Again, all are accessible from this page.

Re: A Present for Members

Nice! Thank YOU...  you talked about creating a forum with this feature over a year ago.

Reply to each user separately, when reply is clicked it quotes and replies to that user.

Quote+ Works as a multi quote, you can quote many posts (Click Quote+ in multiple posts)

Quote+ also works to quote a section of text, highlight the users text and click on Quote+

The quoting of the selected text is a hidden feature which means Quote+ has two functions

Re: A Present for Members

I also migrated to a faster server so we might have lost a couple of posts as the dns propogated.

Also notice you can add a topic to your favorites by clicking top right in the blue bar on the first post.

Then if you want to get to a favorite topic you just click on the Favorites link in the top menu bar.

What happened to the option to save drafts? I don't see it any more, and had a few saved.

Re: A Present for Members

And where did the "zoom back to the top" arrow go?

I realize I can hit ctrl-home/home and do virtually he same thing, but sometimes I'm just mousin' it.

At the bottom of each page, right side.

Says.. Back to Top

Looks like this....

I had to modify that code because it was interfering with some other code.

Should be back and working and no drafts should be lost.

Re: A Present for Members

The only feature I had to discontinue was the link each quote back to the topic.
(I had mentioned that feature in another topic: https://dn.ca/post/2704/#p2704)

That was interfering with Quote+ right click text select.
It was either the link or text select quote that had to go, I could not get both to work together in harmony.

Damn, I could have sworn it was a floating arrow, but I'm mixing it up with DR.

20

Re: A Present for Members

I can make it a floating arrow but I never cared for effects like that. I am trying to keep things simple and easy.

Re: A Present for Members

The advantage of a floating arrow (when you don't have a floating menu) is that allows access anywhere on the page, not just the bottom.

But it's hardly a requirement, I was just really mixed up there for a second, looking for the error and wondering if an add-block had taken it away. LOL

And that is exactly why I like my hard coded one at the bottom of the page. Elements like floating arrows are a favourite for ad blockers to strip away and you cannot compensate for that because each person uses a different ad blocker with a different set of filters. The back to top link at the bottom will be left intact by all ad blockers unless you manually select the element for removal.
