Topic: We.ca - Sold $50,000 CAD

DN.ca exclusive

I can confirm that we.ca was sold for $50,000 a few years ago. The price has not been made public till now.

Unfortunately I do not know the year but it was more than 5 years ago I believe.

What are your thoughts? Under priced or great deal for buyer and seller?

I will email the previous owner again to find out the year.

And of course the embattled WE Charity also paid either USD $500,000 or USD $1,000,000 (unclear!) for We.org:

Either one would have been a great price for a 2 letter .org. Some people value .ca’s about 10% of the value of .com’s so it would make sense that the .org sold for $500,000K.

Re: We.ca - Sold $50,000 CAD

I was way off when I mentioned a possible sale date for we.ca.

WE.ca was in fact sold in 2007.

So a 2 letter .ca selling for $50K over 13 years ago is a great price for it back then.

@GeorgeK would it be possible to find a SEC filing for this one?

Who was the buyer (or seller) in 2007? If they were a public company, it might be possible (although that's a somewhat small transaction, so might not have been considered "material" unless the buyer or seller was also relatively small; things that are not material don't tend to end up in financial statements).

The buyer was the WE organization. The seller was an individual and not a company.

Maybe it’s possible that they (the buyer) had a broker and it sold through them. I wasn’t sure how easy/hard it is to see SEC filings from certain years of different companies.

Re: We.ca - Sold $50,000 CAD

WE Charity does file IRS Form 990 statements in the USA, but I'm not sure how it works in Canada, or where to obtain those financials.

However, Kate Bahen of Charity Intelligence:

https://www.charityintelligence.ca/about-us/contact

might know. She was the one that discovered the .org transaction in WE's financials. See item #3 at:

If you email or phone her, she might be able to lead you in the right direction.

Nafti has a vested interest in two letter domains.  :D

I think he and Adam Dicker have the market cornered.

Adam definitely has more quantity than I do. My measly 5 is no comparison to how many he owns. :)

By comparison...

James Iles from JamesNames.com wrote:

I've been told by a reliable source who wishes to stay anonymous that the domain name WE.com sold for $8 million. The sale was confirmed earlier in the year but price and details of the transaction were never disclosed.

Read it here: https://www.namepros.com/blog/we-com-sa … ed.873017/

So 8 million for the .com and 50k for the .ca but the .ca was sold a number of years back.

Now truth be told if we.ca was in my portfolio I would set the selling price at about 10% of the .com and use it to justify the price.

The .ca was sold in 2007. $50K CDN for a 2 letter .ca back in 2007 was a fair price. I’m not certain if the previous seller knew who the buyer was at the time but they could have gotten more perhaps if they did.

10% of the .com for a .ca is what a few people base their sales on. I can use rate.ca as an example which sold for $75,000 USD while the .com sold for $725,000 USD so around 10%.
