http://www.bingobins.ca/

I walked by a bin container this weekend and was blown away by the creativity of the company.

Bingo.ca is not in use, if I ever saw a need to pursue a domain name this one is it.

I was going to contact the owner of bingo.ca to try and find an acquisition cost.

Chances are I would do all that and the owner of Bin-Go would have no interest.

What a loss of a golden opportunity, this business should go in and offer the owner some cash and be done with it.

What's more surprising is that they didn't feel the $13 to hand-reg BIN-GO.ca was worth it.

Nice find. The extra "bins" at the end of their domain definitely takes away from the creative aspect they came up with.

I dare guess bingo.ca is out of their reach price-wise, as I assume the owner is hoping to sell for big bucks to someone who wants to develop it as an actual online bingo site. I think it's fair to say there's a lot more money in actual bingo than trash bins.

At current population growth numbers, and with every household producing mounds of garbage each week, I am not sure I agree with this.

Depends on what we're talking about when it comes to waste/garbage. Garbage disposal is definitely big business but it looks like these guys are focused on renting out trash bins to construction sites. If they just rent out bins then they might do well but they're no WM.com, who go home to home picking up garbage, among other things waste related.

I view bingo.ca as a gambling domain, which often fetch the highest prices.

Sure, but .CA is a lot different, and I doubt anyone outside of the government or First Nations could even launch a valid gambling site on .CA (and even then they'd probably need a .COM) - it requires a .CA address/presence, and gambling is a highly regulated and restricted form of entertainment. So like porn, the CIRA would just snatch it back.

From the CIRA list of restrictions:

Restrictions. You agree that you shall not register or use a domain name that is deemed by CNNIC to:
- spread pornography, obscenity, gambling...

Any of the gambling sites I've seen are .COM/NET/ORG even ones reportedly owned by Canucks, as these have no restrictions if your country of incorporation is cool with gambling.

There have been quite a few big dotca gambling domain sales already, but yes gambling online has definitely been a trick grey area to say the least.... but what's considered illegal today might not be illegal in the future. Look at cannabis for example.

My mistake, that's not specifically CRA it's from a gov't site that limits what Canadians are allowed to register, so yes, there seems to be Chinese restrictions to what Canadians can do, if you can believe that.

It's like GoDaddy all over again.

But the fact remains, without a license from a federal or provincial government, you cannot set up a gambling site in Canada, and if you are not in Canada, you cannot register and hold a .CA. Kind of a catch-22, and all the major Canadian gambling sites use a .COM/etc. and are located offshore.

I do wonder if First Nations can get away with it, or if their ability is limited to physical locations.

I’m pretty sure there are lots of gambling sites in Canada. I know many of them run out of Quebec.

It’s a grey area but it’s not illegal.

Someone will register bin-go.ca toss up a small site and offer it to them for 5k

If it is anything that could take traffic away from bingobins.ca then they are forced to buy it.

The owners should buy bin-go.ca immediately before it costs them.

I will notify them to see if they bite before someone else does.
