Not sure that this is something CIRA should be publicly taking a position on.

I'm a Musk fan, but I agree that there should be some real verification of users on Twitter if you're going to visually identify verified users and charge for it. And CIRA's opinion on security and trust is admirable. But if only CIRA practiced what they preached!! That is a touch hypocritical from my perspective because CIRA only verifies a domain owner's identity if someone lodges a formal complaint and its not super easy for the average person to figure out how to do that. I'd like to know that all registrants are verified.

A lot of businesses use credit cards as a form of identification... ie google and companies like that.

It's a start especially because one has to verify address currency etc for re-occurring payments.

Makes one wonder what minds are behind Cira's statement.

It is refreshing to see a major online media platform under a different management. I hope Musk will find a way to preserve freedom of speech and make twitter financially successful.

Liberal Party in Canada is seeking to censor internet content through bills C-10 and C-11 and I always thought Cira will become a tool of this endeavor.
Besides the funding CBC receives, Liberal Party has been funding all kinds of media operations in Canada, which already has a self censorship impact.
