Yes GoDaddy charges tax, I don't think DAN did because of where they were located.

IF you are in the US or Canada.... the tax man cometh.

I have to find out if SAW also charges tax but I don't think they are registered in Canada so there would be no HST collected by them.

9% + no tax = one hellova bonus!!

Yeah I paid taxes on auction / transfers / renewals at GoDaddy.

Swetha points out how they're taking it out of the LTO payment instead of asking buyer to pay. This is something new that I didn't know about.

Ya'll are nuts for using any sales platform. Be in control of your own destiny, taxes, payments, etc...

I agree totally, but I'm so busy with work and family (not to mention my domain sideline) that whenever I try to allocate time to even investigate various alternatives, something always comes up.

I was very pleased with Dan and that created a false sense of security, but Afternic is a big sloth-like joke (it now takes 10+ days for a broker to tell you that a potential buyer is a low-balling deadbeat) and I definitely need to break away from this constantly-deteriorating "GoDaddy Family of Products".

If Afternic is now the jewel in the GD crown, it's time to get rid of the royalty.

Fall/Winter is usually a lot easier for me time-wise, and as they say: "Necessity is the mother of invention". And the prospect of Afternic being my default marketplace is a creating boatload of necessity.

I only list .com's in USD and even then I'm only testing SAW on a few to see if I get more inquiries than on the ones I list myself.
I listed less than 100 domains and I have had inquiries on quite a few of them.

I migrated everything I had in Dan over to Afternic today. Will see how it goes. Busy time of year for me now, I could just end up forwarding everything to my own lander at some point, like I already do with my higher value names.

Not good if they are also adding tax on top of their commission, need to get a better understanding of what's going on there.

Yup, just imagine 35 + 13 percent if you are a private domainers.

I can count on one hand how many times I paid commission. Ask most of the folks here, I buy and sell using DN with people I know.

Yep, they are kind of forcing domainers to do it themselves, and I have been inching that way with my top names over time.

It's great when you have a buyer who knows how a domain transaction works.

When you have a first time domain buyer it can be more time consuming, they usually think if they send you money you'll scam them and not send the domain (even though they contacted you in the first place) - those kind of trust issues, then along with the frictional .ca domain transfer process, you also have to guide them through an escrow process. There is a commission level that is worth it to me for the ease of someone else handling all that, but it's getting harder to find. Dan at 9% was great while it lasted.
