What a nice DNJ article(y)

Sorry to hear of his passing, It was always interesting reading his posts. His assets and family are in great hands with rlm looking after his domain / Business. I could not think of a better person to handle that difficult task.

Sean was an amazing person and I am glad to have known him. I always thought it a big shame that he had a fear of flying as otherwise we would have been blessed with his presence at a lot more domainer events. One of the nicest people around and always with a smile that made you gravitate to... It was an honor! RIP Sean, you will be missed.

Cheers
David

I agree with that, but he did drive all over the place to attend many events, too. Good to see you here David.

Hey gang, I've been out for the past couple of weeks (its fire season). I'm home again and can now properly respond.

I knew Shaun was sick, but he only told me earlier this year, even though he had been diagnosed with a grim outlook last year. He told me at the time that I was the only one that knew. He didn't want anyone to take pity on him, that's just the kind of guy he was.

He had a rough go of it recently. I last talked to him just a couple weeks ago - I just didn't realize it would be the last time.

Ron's story is indeed very nice, in the third pic down, that's me that Shaun was talking to during the auction. That was about the time he and I started to get into business together.

I'm not sure how many know this, but Shaun had an alter ego as a successful pool player, organized pool leagues and founded the Western Canadian Pool Championships. See the 2008 VNEA Hall of Fame: 2008 - VNEA

I've been trying to figure out what to do when a member passes away and I wanted to make sure whatever I do is respectful and discreet.

So all I did was put RIP under his member name and maybe everyone can go and like his last post.

This was the last thing he posted: Two letter .ca in the wild

So sorry to hear of this sad news. I did not know him personally, but as all describe he clearly made a difference in the world of domains, and handled some big names. Nice to have the article in DNJournal.
Bob

I remember when Shaun was developing licorice.ca: Best Selection of Licorice in Canada | Licorice Crave.

I reached out privately to tell him how I noticed blacklicorice.ca had dropped and was available.

He was grateful for the tip but seemed a bit uncertain, probably given that he already had the best domain for that niche... and certainly a ton more similar candy domains. Not to mention candy.ca.

Anyway, I just checked the whois for blacklicorice.ca and he did indeed buy the domain. It currently resolves to a GD page which simply indicates it's unavailable and I'm thinking it would be better served as a redirect to his licorice.ca. @rlm, perhaps this is something you can easily do for his wife if you think it's a good idea. The keywords get about 3600 google searches per month within Canada if my stats are correct.

In any event, I just wanted to share the story.

Here’s a timeline I put together about licorice.ca:

He announced he acquired the domain on January 9th, 2021:
What was your latest Domain Acquisition? (not hand registered)

He actually purchased the domain via @Traffickerz, a member here:
OFFERS / Liquidating Premiums and Generics

He also owns liquorice.ca, which he bought as a handreg and has it redirecting to licorice.ca:
Your latest .ca Hand Registration and Why?

He spoke a bit about developing licorice.ca in March 2021:
Candy.com has been sold

He announced the launch of the site on April 21, 2021:
We just launched our new .ca website

He spoke of the development of the site here earlier this year:
Your Developed eCommerce Sites

Pretzels.com is a sister company of licorice.com, and I just learned that aactive owns pretzels.ca too.

I don't remember the post but he mentioned it here: I see Licorice.com is going to be launching Pretzels.com

I think licorice.com is under a perpetual lease with venture.com but I don't think that's the case with pretzels.com.

We chatted about that one too and the shipping costs came up as a huge barrier.
