This is the dumbest move I've seen in a long while.

Sure, SnapNames and NameJet shared (some) data, but no domain investor in their right mind used SN, as their Search Engine is crap (with few selection options) and their Domain Lists are a joke. NJ was THE place to go for domainers because the site actually worked and provided quick and relevant domain information.

Now it's just one big smelly disfunctional mess that everyone seems to be angry about. Did they even think about consulting the domain community (i.e. their customer base) before pulling something this drastic?

WTH were they even thinking, as the "lost features" are some pretty freaking big & important ones, and now these look gone forever. Did they actually believe (in some drug-fueled haze) that the features and options on SN duplicated those on NJ? Who's running the show over there, Curious George?

I can almost guarantee you, that with the significant loss of features and functionality, NJ/SN are going to see a noticeable drop in revenue. Just try searching to anything at NJ and see what kind of results (and a lack of filters) are available. Anytime I try I just get a big pile of garbage.

NameJet design had better features and user experience. Switching to SnapNames design seems like a downgrade to me.

This is exactly the problem. NameJet was the only viable source of domain data on the Web.com network, so with it deleted, there are many instances of "you can't get there from here" when using the crappy SnapNames interface to find, sort and filter domains. NJ was 100X the site that SN is, so naturally they kill NJ, then just add a new logo to the useless and disfunctional SN site.

Done! High fives all around.

I've seen stupid mistakes like this (the horrible Staples web downgrade comes to mind) but not from an online business that makes all their revenue online.

What were they thinking?
