This is one very weird idea (right up there with Bud Light) and I suspect it will have a similar result.
If Overstock is having trouble with sales, then find out why - changing your domain to an old & defunct, 16-character business URL is not going to change the core issues they're likely facing. It will probably just create more problems.

Bed Bath and Beyond was once a trendy beloved retail outlet. Overstock never was. I get that there's some credibility and nostalgia to the old BBAB name, but if they just apply their existing Overtstock business practices, it wont work. Then again, neither will the old BBAB business practices work. Something's gotta change.
In Germany a hardware store closed, and the brand was purchased by two entrepreneurs who turned it into an online store. Can't recall/find the name of the store at the moment, so I'm not entirely sure how it turned out, but I thought the story was interesting.
O is dead in the water, anything after overstock was mistake after mistake.
