In my humble opinion they are finally starting to price themselves out of business, I have dropped and am continuing to drop domains I would probably have kept years previous. I now look at renewal costs and am constantly thinking where can I cut to drive my portfolio costs down a bit.

Yep, same here. I mentioned not long ago how I'm cutting back on my portfolio, in recent years I have been adding a lot less names through hand regs and TBR's than I used to. Especially with sales having slowed or inquirers having too low a budget. Not sure what my target is, but somewhere in the area of +/- 500 domains or so.

We are all in that same big boat MapleDots @MapleDots . There could be exceptions.

I'm still surprised more of the guys knee deep in NFTs didn't jump over to domains.

Everything related to domains is a big cash grab right now.

Companies that control the domains, or control access to domains, see all the big sales and smell money, so are consistently cranking up prices. But what they don't see (or choose not to see) are the millions upon millions of unsold domains that are a sunk cost + renewals.

There is no question that there will be an economic reckoning that ends up hurting many of these domain-controlling leeches. Just look at Verisign, who increased .COM renewal prices to the tune of 10% a year, and is now complaining that revenues are down and is madly searching for other factors to blame the downturn on.
