I asked Todd, CEO of Dynadots, my original question. He suggested I try their contact form that could be used for domains of all extensions, https://www.dynadot.com/domain/contact-request?domain=dynadot.com.
Something you might want to save for the next time you are looking for the owner of a .com.
Thanks Maple!
I will add your idea to my list, I have not tried that.
I forgot to mention Whois.com or my favorite the whois at Dynadot. Most have very little info, just "Privacy".
Does Verisign do anything to help find a .com?
I posted on a particular name recently but let's keep this general.
A few times each month, a .ca domain I want is not being used and I cannot find the owner.
My strategy:
1. Check the landing page for contact info.
2. Use the CIRA request page, you can send a message to the owner.
3. If still...
I have a large project involving domains as NFTs.
Do you know anyone I could hire as a consultant to help in this quest?

rlm and Maple,
Thanks for your info.
In general, if:
1.the CIRA message does not get a reply
2. There is no info on the current website
3. archive.org has nothing
What other suggestions do you have in these days of 'Privacy' being the default for whois listings? How do you find the owner?
I guess we all have dropped a domain that we wish we had kept.
Mine is Progyny.ca.
1. Shows on whois as registered at 10dollar.ca.
2. I have sent messages via the CIRA contact form twice but no reply.
3. New owner bought March 2021, no archive.org info.
4. I expect it was a domain investor...
Would you agree that a generic business domain like Sunglasses.ca [just an example] or even Insurance.ca would not sell for nearly as high a price as it did ten years ago?
I think you could wait a long time to get even $10k for Sunglasses.ca. Yes there will be exceptions if there is a buyer...
