I sometimes punch in random .ca’a into my address bar. Today was no different. I came across Zac. I think I could think of few other sites to put on this one.

It’s also been registered for more than 20 years and I don’t believe it’s been updated in a while.

Thoughts?

Seen similar before, a lot of people don't need a website and use the domain strictly for email.

I had a domain that I used for email for years and people always contacted me saying "I see the domain is not in use" to which I responded... That is a strong assumption!

Off topic but here is proof that we are tracked with ads of some sort. Shortly after I posted here, here is an ad that popped up on social media. I guess it’s the closest social media could get with a guy named “Zac”.

It would have to be a browser cookie because I guarantee you dn.ca has not a single tracker, ad, or anything else. The only thing we use are cookies to keep you logged in.

However your browser tracks you from the second you type it in the url bar.

I'm sure you did your research - I was just curious and asked my adblocker, unlock.

Some embeds could also track, i.e. from this page my adblocker tells me that connections are being made to Twitter, postimage.org, postimg.cc, postimgs.org (for the picture embeds, they could also track, I'm not familiar with this site) and esdecastcdn.net. Not sure if Edge networks have any tracking.

To be the most likely culprit could be Twitter here, but that was just posted afterwards.

The sites you mentioned are used for our resources, we link to postimage and they display our pictures and we link to twitter for our twitter button and our twitter links.

We hotlink to the images directly so again no trackers per say unless you click on the image and go to postimages directly but I have a script that forwards you to our internal picture tutorial instead https://dn.ca/topic/58/post-image-tutorial if you leave the picture link unaltered. The topic poster can insert a link for the picture manually and that is where we have had problems in the past and I had to restrict edit limits because people came back and inserted malware links.

I now check every picture link for malware and my tutorial picture link converts almost all postimage standard links back to board links.

So as far as tracking goes there is probably not a more inert site than dn.ca but remember the chrome or edge browser will track anything from the url bar. So type in hp printer and you are bound to get an amazon ad for a printer eventually. So when people talk about the printer on dn they post a picture which was tacked of the internet and it is from there that they are tracked not dn.ca
