As of today the number of .ca domains registered at CIRA is 3,402,792
I'm going to use this topic to follow this number to see if registrations are going up or down.
With TBR approaching 10k drops per week, that translates into about 40k domains per month being dropped.
Multiply that by a year and you could hypothetically say 480k in drops.
Fortunately there are not that many 10k weeks so the number above is probably far higher than actual drops.
So given the pressure of price increases and the fact that retail on a .ca is now averaging between $15-$20 depending on where you go it will be interesting to see how the registration numbers will be affected moving forward.
I know in my case I am dropping quite a few and registering much more carefully, especially since .com's have skyrocketed as well and that is factored into maintaining a larger catalog.
I was saying in another post that subscription fees on almost everything are getting out of hand and technically domains are another annual subscription fee. I myself am looking at reducing my total subscriptions by about 25% this year and domains are also factoring into this equation.
What is everyone else doing and will another price increase make you cut back further?
