We knew this was happening, there have been numerous complaints against OTHER companies in the past.

I see GoDaddy getting so much hate because of their buggy reg path search. Their search shows registered names as available. One would think fixing that would be a top priority since they get accused of front running but nope. It has been like that for months now since I reported it.

In general, not necessarily specific to GoDaddy, the source of this problem is often the specific registry and how that registry insists their inventory query be configured at/by the registrar. The registrars take the blame for this, but the fault is often the registry. Very common with ccTLDs, but not .CA, thankfully.

As long as some registries insist on such an inherently flawed query configuration, the 'innocent' registrars will get accused of crimes they did not commit.
