I think Twitter purposely got left out of a hot list because of one person thinking it was a TM issue.

Secondly I believe it should be renamed to Frank’s list and not hot list. 😊

I just want to add one more thing

Hot domains are based on one persons opinion, that person is well versed in domains but I have seen a few (not late) domains that did not show up on hotpicks. IE Twitter.ca and it fetched one of the higher values.

So what really makes a domain hot?

I would venture a guess that more bids would be the number one thing to look at.

Just saying....

Oh and I think what makes a hot domain is the price it fetches for. Considering there is no need for people to bid anymore. Let’s say the bid number matters. When someone sees 10 bids why would they bid if it’s going to auction anyway? There’s no point. Plus if you really think about it how many active bidders are there on a given week in TBR. I know Frank knows this answer and the difference is not huge.

For you and me, definitely, but again, WHC still has access to the "Number of Bids" data to determine "what's reallly hot" and the server prioritization, the only difference is that it's no longer public.

But you make it seem that the data has disappeared or something.

And you could also contend that with the Bid Numbers no longer public, that the data is even more relevant as you've got rid of all the "follow the leader" nimrods who just mindlessly add their bids to the stack.

P.S. Frank purposefully left Twitter.ca off the Hot List due to TM concerns.

Exactly, once the bids hit 2 then the actual number no longer matters as it's going to auction anyway.

Now that I think about it, this is actually a superb point you made, as displaying the bids would cause a lot of people to just not bid any further, thus not communicating the true "hotness" of the domain (for prioritization) had it been hidden. This means hiding bids under a public auction system provides WHC with cleaner and more relevant bid data with which to plan their TBR frontloading.

Excellent point. (y)

@FM

A few things:

1) Can you add a "Bulk Domain Auction" feature to the "Join New Auctions" section of the Domain Auctions section?

2) Also, I noticed that the Won/Lost info is incorrect for past auctions and it seems that any pre-order that I didn't lose (or that WHC failed to win at TBR) is automatically shown as "Won". I know it's probably a work-in-progress, but I wanted to toss that in just in case.

@FM

Also, are there going to be (non-personal/random) Bidder IDs like on CatchDrop and Baremetal to at least potentially assuage any concern that there actually were 2+ bidders for each private auction?

Nothing against you or WHC, just in general it seems like Bidder IDs are standard for public auctions.

I was not available yesterday, so thanks to @MarineN for helping us keeping an eye on dn.ca :)

@DomainRecap : Thank you for helping us track down some issues here.

As for the login and bidding issues, can you please retry? You might need to force a refresh on your browser and/or delete cookies from whc.a on your machine.

No concrete plans for it yet, but it's on my wishlist.

Yes, WHC is making this change to allow more people to access the auctions, which we hope will, in turn, increase revenue. In turn, we hope it promotes the concept of premium .CA domains.

Our main motivation for not making initial bids public and lowering our entry price was a compromise to allow single bidders to still snag steals without alerting others specifically to those domains.

Yes, and I agree that we talked about this facet of your system before, but it is fortuitous that it also provides some secondary benefits that I didn't even think of before. The implications literally never crossed my mind before yesterday.

No one is accusing you of being some devious tech-nerd (yet :LOL: ) and everything just seemed to work out in WHC's favor while you were trying to design a fair system. I guess good things happen to good people who make good decisions.

One other thing:

If the All Auctions tab is going to hold every auction ever or even any closed auctions, then maybe it shouldn't be the primary tab in the Domain Auctions section? I'm always logging in and that's the first place I go, which is the last place I want to be.

I'd rather have Pending Drops and then Live Auctions to the left and All Auctions (which is really just history, starting with the oldest closed listings) in the middle. When I need to look at my auction history, I'll click on the Closed Auctions tab.

Basically, whatever you decide, there is no reason to have historical closed auctions in the primary tab.

Also, even when I am in Pending Drops and add a new backorder, afterwards the Pending Drops tab magically adds in all the Closed Auctions at the top and I have to refresh to get rid of them.

Man, those Closed Auctions sure want to be seen.

@Eby (and anybody else who bid on it) Please ignore any additional notifications you have received about test.ca. My apologies for those going out as well.

Hey Frank, I have a buyer for Test.ca - how much longer is it going to take to transfer it to my account?

FYI - we'll be reviewing some of the sorting of the sections in the Domain Auctions in the client area, we're just not done with all of the small changes and tweaks.
