Andy Booth acquired BDC.com for 92K USD via expired auction.

Interestingly, it turns out that "Business Development Bank of Canada", aka BDC, was the previous owner and let it drop. Is someone going to get fired over this? Is a UDRP in the air? I'm not sure, but it's a pretty big mistake on BDC's part.

Or BDC simply thinks the .com is no longer relevant to them.

Maybe the stats showed only a small amount of traffic coming from that direction.


All that said the sheer value of BDC.com as a domain makes it a huge mistake on behalf of the company to let it expire. Personally I would question the competency of their iT department with this huge mistake.

I wonder if an insurance claim would pay out such a large blunder?

I have seen this happen a few times lately with .ca’s where a big corporation drops a great .ca. I wonder if the same contact info was used for the .com as is the .ca now.

This happens often. Generally it’s the .CA being dropped. In all of the cases where I picked up the .CA the company never came back.
