Got someone going back and forth on a .ca with me and the guy is low balling me. I usually just ignore but during the back and forth he made this comment.

But it's a .ca domain, low international recognition

I responded asking him if he is kidding or if he even understands domains.

1. .ca means Canada, everyone in the world recognizes that.

2. Recognition in Canada is the highest there is.

3. Why is he worried about international recognition buying a .ca ?

The statement is weird from every angle, it's like negotiating on a .de and complaining it's not an international domain. I don't think the guy even understands the concept of a ccTLD.

Had this conversation many times over the past 25 years and it is to intimidate the registrant.

I have heard people say “it’s only a Canadian domain” “it’s good for only 30M people” etc

Of course they're just trying to knock you down, they've got nothing to lose. But it does indicate they are actually interested in acquiring the domain. Some potential buyers are just small-time and will never be able to afford the domain, but others CAN afford the domain, they just dont WANT to pay for it. I have converted some of those types into very good sales.

So assuming this is a nice premium domain name, I would say:

If the .CA domain will not achieve your business goals, then no problem. If you need non-Canadian exposure, then .COM is indeed king. In that case, I absolutely recommend that you price it out and make that purchase if it fits your budget. If you primarily need Canadian exposure, or you are proud to show the international market that your products and/or services are Canadian based, then only the .CA will do that. .CA is the undisputed king of Canada, just as most other country code TLDs (known as ccTLDs) are for their respective countries. Note that even if you acquire the .com, the .CA is still a necessity if you're marketing to Canadians, for all of the obvious reasons. Other TLD's carry significant risk, so if you're seriously considering some other TLD extension, then please do your research first.

I'd also like to point out that if I were willing to sell this domain as cheap as you'd like, then the domain would have already been sold long ago and you wouldn't even have this opportunity to purchase it right now. You should THANK me that the price isn't cheap. That's the reality here.

If you would truly like to acquire this domain, then please understand that your budget may dictate what you can afford right now, but it does not dictate the domain's value. Our pricing is based on 20 years of .CA specific domain sales experience. It ensures that this domain will eventually go to a business that can truly take advantage of the long-term branding and financial benefits of having the perfect .CA domain name. Premium domain names such as this bring with it a premium aura that includes giving your business instant trust and respect, and it is priced as such.

So if you do understand the long term value of owning this domain name, then maybe the best solution is to discuss financing options. A payment plan has a lot of advantages, including:

- You get immediate use of your perfect domain name.
- Build your brand now, it is less costly than a brand change later.
- You ensure the domain doesn't get sold to anyone else.
- You lock in the price and avoid future price increases.
- Less cash up front that can be used for growing the business.
- Consider it a try-it-before-you-buy-it scenario, less upfront risk.
- You can cancel any time, with no commitment.

I have much more flexibility over the terms of the payment plan than the price of the domain. I would suggest that we accept your offer as a down-payment and work out payment terms for the remaining amount due. Would this work for you?

Just got this one. Can't believe a broker would even lead with an offer like this. But I guess they got paid to do it and a nice low offer like this just means they won't have to even deal with a response.
