I wanted to open up a topic to shame some of the Canadian businesses that ignore the .ca and only use the .com.
Now I can fully understand this for an international company but if your roots are in Canada you should probably own the .ca as well.

I will start....
Tucows is an international company that has a division called Hover.com

Hover is basically a registrar for most extensions and they are based in Toronto Canada. They sell all over the world and charge in USD only. I used them as my registrar for years and ended up leaving them when the conversion rate got too high. At the time they did not own the .ca of Hover and I often questioned them why I had to pay in USD and even pay the sales tax in USD. It was absolutely ludicrous.

I noticed the other day they now own the .ca

The domain does not resolve and I am kind of disappointed that a Canadian based company is basically ignoring it's local market. To have to pay exchange rate and credit card markups on the sales tax portion of the domain is insane. I think it is high time Hover/Tucows puts the .ca to use and offers Canadians the opportunity to do business in CAD instead of USD.

So what company do you know that ignores the .ca and should be a member of our hall of shame?

Great topic!

Jean Coutu is a big one. They operate on the .com and the .ca doesn't resolve.

Looks like they only acquired the .CA in March 2019 too so it probably has something to do with that... I can't find much history for it prior to March 2019 but I assume someone else owned it and finally let it drop. They've owned the .COM since 1998 so it's hard to imagine them waiting until 2019 to handreg the .CA lol.

I think I have the hands down winner for this award

The poster child of poster children

So who do you think should use a dot ca domain

How about an organization that promotes Canada

DestinationCananda.com

If anyone ought to be rocking the ca I would think it should be the organization responsible for promoting Canada at home and to the world

Likely the most shameful non-use of a ca of all

This thread will go on forever as there are thousands of companies.

The one I most recall is RBC.ca. How a bank in Canada doesn’t own the .CA is ridiculous.
