The Final Board Election Candidates have been posted
Election : Final Candidates – CIRA

Interesting to note that the amount of show of supports has not been published and there's only 3 member candidates who received enough show of support votes... it felt that there were lots of candidates this time.

You should also register for the Annual General Meeting here:

I was going to post the forum link as well, but it wasn't live yet. So far, in my experience, the forum has never had an impact on the election results, at least not any visible one that clearly skewed the results. Many of the election winners actually didn't even participate in the forum at all, or just very little.

Received an email...

My name is David Mackey.

As a dedicated member of CIRA for nine years, I’m running as a member candidate for the CIRA Board again this year.

I believe our CIRA community deserves a strong, member-focused voice on the Board.

I hope I can have your support.

As you know, the 2024 CIRA Board Election starts on Sept 25th and runs to Oct 2nd. You should have received an email for voting from CIRA on Sept 25th.

Please click on the link found in the email from CIRA, login, and then select my name under the Member Slate checkbox.

If elected to the CIRA board, I bring three decades of experience in the high tech industry. I also serve on the Stratford Public Library board, the Ontario Library Service provincial board and the provincial Ontario Library Association Board Council.

Public Libraries are the original community knowledge source and served the public interest long before the Internet was ever conceived. Libraries help us understand that it’s not enough just to have access to knowledge, but we need to build strong communities around the knowledge in order to thrive as a society. I believe CIRA’s mission can benefit from my perspective and experience with public libraries in the not-for-profit public sector.

In addition to my Public Library board experience, I bring unique Internet Governance experience with my volunteer work in the ICANN At-Large stakeholder group.

I am committed to the values of transparency and accountability, and I enjoy working with others. If elected to the CIRA board, I will work with you and the board to improve the CIRA member community.

My full candidate statement can be found on the CIRA website.

I'm eager to ignite a stronger sense of community between CIRA members, but I cannot do it alone. I'd love to hear your ideas on how we can become a more vibrant and connected CIRA member community. Please reach out to me and tell me what's on your mind.

Finally, you may be interested in the CIRA Members Facebook Group that I created a few years ago. I understand Facebook isn’t for everyone, but if it is, we’d love for you to join the open conversation about CIRA and Internet Governance in the group. I firmly believe CIRA is a better organization when CIRA members are fully connected and participate actively inside an open community.

I look forward to hearing from you. Let’s work together to improve CIRA and the member experience.

Sincerely,
David Mackey

There was someone who made a reference to DN.ca in their comments. Don't remember the person's name but it was cool.

Likely @davidm .

Thanks for all of you who joined the AGM :) Now it's time to vote.

CIRA needs to support DN .ca and encourage member collaboration on it. It would be great if CIRA could provide funding to make this a more robust platform.

Who should we vote for and why? Which candidates will ensure that CIRA reduces discretionary spending and avoids scope creep?

I think CIRA and the Candidates should use DN.ca as the discussion forum to get public and member input.

We already have to tools, the CIRA forum is too complicated and moving discussions here officially or unofficially would open it up to deeper discussion, especially if a few candidates participated.

Great idea but an organization big as CIRA considering it, I feel might be only a wish. They told that they are running the .NL and .SG platforms too. I think they might want to create their own, if they ever wanted one or desired to provide that.

Yeah, but that would feel like big brother is watching over...

What I found curious is that this year, it seemed there were a lot of member candidates, but only 3 actually passed the show of support stage. This resulted in higher vote numbers on the member slate than usual.

In the CIRA forum some of the candidates seems to have gotten mixed up between registrar, registry and registrant.

Anyone there also a domainer?
No, in my eyes, none of the candidates or candidates elect this time are from the domain industry. I do like David Mackey's focus on involving CIRA members more, but it's a difficult task, which others have tried in the past.

I would never vote for a candidate who spams the CIRA membership database.
If you're referring to, David, I am not sure he emailed everybody. I know of a few CIRA members who didn't get an email from him. Generally speaking, I agree with that notion, but there were a number of candidates in the past for whom this worked. Maybe now that it's $500 to get the member list from CIRA, not as many candidates will do this, though.
