I own a few .ca domains and have always wondered if the .ca registry would ever open it up? I follow gerard michael on linkedin and his post suggests a change is possible?

Could .CA Become the New .AI?

Welcome aboard Stuey

That subject has been discussed numerous times on the forum and chances of CIRA opening up .CA are pretty slim.

Upon reflection I changed my mind on this...

I used to think opening it up would create more sales but it would just make it worthless for a big company to go with a .ca, since the definition of CANADA would no longer be there. So company.com/ca would probably become wider used if .ca was open.

I like your MapleLeaf avatar, coincidentally I own MapleLeafs.org

Thank you for the welcome :)
I am a diehard leafs fan. Would love to see them win the cup. I also follow the canucks.
Perhaps .ca opening up could be good if canadian companies stick with it and others in cali adopt it?

The #1 reason I invest in .ca is because it's truly exclusive to Canada (which I hope doesn't change). As online fraud continues to increase, as the Internet continues to get divided into spheres of influence (USA vs. China) etc I feel like Canadians will continue to trust .ca

Yeah, this argument is as old as .CA - but I still think its best as reserved for a Canadian Presence. Now if only CIRA would use all their extra money to enforce that rule rather than looking for more ways to spend it on things not relevant to the registry.
