I have WHOIS Privacy on for all my .CA domains at WHC but for some reason there is a mix where some of them show my full name, email, and phone number.

I figure there has to be another setting somewhere just like the days when I had to phone godaddy to flick another switch for privacy.

All in all I would love it if this feature actually worked and I could show or hide my whois info depending on the setting.

@richard.schreier & @FM is there a setting in my CIRA account or at WHC that I am missing?

Check the entity type ----- if the ones that are showing full WHOIS are corporations, perhaps that's the factor? (I'm not sure if corporations are allowed to have WHOIS privacy in the .ca ccTLD; under gTLDs like .com, etc., corporations can have WHOIS privacy)

I'm pretty sure all mine are set as Canadian Citizen and I can see that at godaddy but at WHC I cannot see that option once registered.

Also I have so many domains that to check them all for what shows and what does not would be a chore and a half. At godaddy I can click and it shows this, which can be edited...

So it does appear for Red.ca the OLD control panel shows Privacy NOT engaged (pic #1) then the NEW panel (pic #2) shows it engaged. Since I can see all my whois info I assume the old panel is correct.

Thats a pretty big flaw and the idea of going through hundreds of domains is pretty daunting.

So even when the control panels get fixed @GeorgeK brings up a good question.

How does one know if a domain is accidentally set to Corporation as opposed to citizen?

I went into my CIRA control panel at: member.cira.ca/Membership/Sign_In.aspx and saw now way to check that either.

With so many domains the entire whois feature need some bulk tools but at godaddy I can at least check to see if it is set to citizen or not.

@GeorgeK is right. All "individual" type registrants (Canadian Citizen, resident etc) are redacted by the registry by default. Only "non-individual" type registrant (Corporations for example) are NOT redacted by default. CIRA accepts application from "non-individual" to have the data hidden under special circumstances. For example, a half-way house for battered women might choose to keep their address anonymous for obvious reasons. But, your registrar has the ability to turn privacy off for "individual" type registrations. @MapleDots I would strongly encourage you to ask your registrar under what conditions they would make a domain WHOIS public? They might, for example, have an obligation to do so under court order but I would presume they would tell you if that was the case.

I know mine are all set as Canadian Citizen but I cannot double check, just in case there is an error but I also know there are no open cases against my domains so I think its just quirks is the settings but I find it strange that cira has no mechanism to show domain users if the domain is registered as a company. I see all my domains listed at cira under each email address. CIRA shows all registrations to the same address, should be easy to add corporate or private registration.

Hi @MapleDots , thank you for reporting the difference in our interfaces, I'll take a closer look at what is happening here.

Has anyone registered a domain recently or over the last few months at RegisterDomain.ca? This happens ALL the time and have to request support to rectify it. I wonder why they can't fix this once and for all.
@CatchDrop

red.ca is a private registration yet still exposed on whois

So even though it shows private on the new whc control panel on the old one it shows public.

I switched the switch in the old control panel and got this error

Whoever, after a few minutes it did indeed go to private.

I found another and it makes me wonder how many of my domains have my name, email, and phone number exposed.

@FM can pm me if he wants the other domain I just found with the same issue.

Obviously I cannot go through hundreds of domains to check every one but this has me wondering how many are set similar.

PS. ALL MY DOMAINS ARE SET TO CANADIAN CITIZEN
