Exchange rate as of today

So take the $7.67 and add a 2% Credit Card Foreign Exchange Fee = $7.82 + 13% Tax = $8.84 real cost

A little higher than your figure but still pretty darn good compared to the $11.99 + tax we source locally

However.... Because there is always a however...

The renewal is killer

$12.20 = $16.81 CAD = 2% = $17.14 + Tax = $19.37

So you have to move it right out after the first year and that is a pain if you have a lot of domains.

Charge on my credit card is about $7.85 per domain. The tax is included in the 5.57, part of their business model. When registrations aren't on sale, renewals are about $9 US (which is about the same WHC charges for their gold domain club members after tax, I did the math a while back). But if I'm worried about renewals, I can always transfer out (which I want to do anyway, just for the sake of keeping my business north of the border). One nice thing you get with Porkbun is complimentary SSL, which I like (not sure how widespread that feature is...).

If you're saving $4/domain and you have a big portfolio, that is enticing. Saving $20K is probably worth the hassle of spending a day or two transferring domains.

Some have offered the first year discounted, but force you to pay the second year up front, at the regular jacked up price - which obviously doesn't make it worthwhile most of the time.

But if this is a legit no strings attached one year transfer, then it is indeed pretty enticing.

Unfortunately, I just did $15K worth of upcoming renewals a few days ago...

How hard is it to retrieve the auth code at pork bun? any bulk feature for that?

Unfortunately you can offer renewals for $1 but I have to trust to hold my domains with you. The registrar has a lot of control over our domains and if I’m not careful I could easily lose them.

ah, nevermind, not sure why I was thinking it was renewals and not just new registrations.

Yup, it's a pain in the arse moving a lot of domains, especially since you can't do it in bulk.

If they do any real volume in Canada they will eventually have to start collecting tax Canadian Sales Tax just like GoDaddy had to do. Look at Google, Netflix etc, they all had to start collecting the taxes.

If it were good on transfers, I'd probably have to do it and I've done it before. If I can save $20K in renewals for a couple days work, of course I'm going to do it. And I can probably automate it one way or another anyways. And I see that Porkbun has an API too.
