anyone know how to unlock a name at myid.ca? sold a name and buyer cannot transfer because is showing locked. i received the auth code from myid.ca staff

If you go to the "My Domains" section there should be a lock icon which makes it pretty clear. You just need to click on it.

I included an image here below, where one domain is locked, and the other is unlocked.

1999 control panel

I don’t guess they make enough money yearly from the TBR to pay for a more modern look.

That’s one thing I really like about myid. They are quick to give you an authorization code. I never have any issues. I feel like the authorization code can be held as “hostage” by some registrars. It would be nice if you could request it and receive it instantly.

Interesting. Glad you have better results than I did. I used MyID once (TBR) and could not get them to respond to me with the auth code (multiple emails and even voicemail). I eventually got CIRA involved and then they responded to me.

You shouldn't have to contact them at all to get the code - should be automated a la Rebel and others.

MyID can be a real pain in the ass because they seem to work at their own convenience. So its hit or miss, maybe they respond right away, maybe it takes 3 or 4 days.

But the best tip I can give would be to use the support form from the website, rather than just emailing them. I seem to recollect that I get a quicker response that way.

Were it not for their TBR ability why would anyone use this company? This is such 1990’s behaviour!

Nope

You never know what these companies are doing prior to giving you the authorization code. It would be rather tragic if someone entered into your account and was able to recover authorization codes instantly because they were available right on registrars dashboard.

I guess I feel like when you request it there’s a chance they are doing some due diligence before they send you the code. Either way I have never had an issue with myid in terms of requesting code it has always been within a day.

Agreed, as convenient as it is to see the auth code right in your control panel, there's obviously some danger there with getting hacked. Not that I think they're doing any real due diligence on their end, I'm assuming they will just send it to the admin contact email. But there's also some danger if someone hacks your email account too. I would definitely do things differently if I was running my own registrar. That being said, with the current typical auth code processes that registrars use, I've never been hacked or had a domain stolen or anything like that.

As far as MyID goes, while they're not always very speedy, I've never felt they were purposely stalling either. My biggest problem with them is that I find their email messages periodically wind up in spam folders, or I never receive them at all. And that when you win a TBR auction, you have to wait for the payment link to be emailed to you (which as mentioned, sometimes winds up in spam or never arrives at all), so then I have to go back and ask for it occasionally. I've requested numerous times over many years that a payment link be attached directly to the invoice listing so that even if I don't get the email, I can just log in and pay it. And as _simple_ AF as that would be to do, they've never done it. My problem is when you play TBR at so many registrars you have to stay on top of making payments and configuring domains. I typically like to do it right away so that I can forget about it and move on.

I have had mixed results at My ID
Sometimes they are quick t respond
other times I was left to wonder if anyone worked there anymore
Based on my own experience and all I have heard if I were ranking registrars based on customer service alone myID.ca would not make the list
