Investing is about acquisitions not sales. (5.Viewing)

I can't stress enough that domain investing is about acquisitions not sales.

Sales are simply the residue of great acquisitions.

I have been able to reinvent the monetization of my domains for nearly 30 years. There is always an avenue. Whether it was an affiliate marketing, PPC, or today with the leases, options and joint ventures. It's a collage. A wonderful collage of income streams.

And my point is that if you're focused on sales, you're distracted from what domain investing is all about.

You have seen me for decades, but I've never tried selling domain names. But I have more sales than most. How is that possible?

And the answer is simple, I have always focused on acquisitions and acquisitions only. Sales take care of themselves. And proactive selling shows desperation.

A domain name has only one salesman and it ain't you. It's the domain name. Let the domain name talk. Let the domain name speak. Let the domain name dream. Let the domain name loose and it shall set you free.

Anyone here agree with Rick?

He's not wrong, but he's not entirely right either.

You make money on the buy. Acquiring saleable products at the lowest possible price is always the best path for any sales-related business.

Conversely, if you hit the Expired Auctions and just outbid the world on all the top/premium domains, you will not create a profit in your lifetime. Rick can say things like this because he has a huge portfolio from the 90's to fund it (from past sales) and it seems to work for him.

People just starting out need to be smarter and buy a lot smarter.
