Is Godaddy in Trouble? (1 Viewing)

LOOKS LIKE GODADDY IS IN DEEP TROUBLE!!

The magic of social media:
According to many people sending me dm's it looks like the reason why many domainers are not receiving their payouts from Afternic
(After they sold their domains more than a month ago!) Is due to GoDaddy cash flow problems.

Here is what some users told me...

User1: "Hi jack.
We work for a domain business with a xxx,xxx portfolio, there is an auto renew issue.
We suspect there are cash flow issues .
It definitely happened in the last month and we are fighting to get refund but hitting a brick wall (and we have a dedicated account manager at GoDaddy)".

User2: "Someone said on x afternic have million dollar liabilities"

User3: "Pretty sure godaddy have cash flow issues. Heard about them auto renewing thousands of domains (in error) but not refunding , some of the big boy portfolios."

User4: "Godaddy renewed a few thousand of their expiring #domains which weren’t set to renew . They’ve got so many they wouldn’t have noticed but they were doing a data exercise and picked it up. I think the auto renew issues seems common having had a quick google . But for people like us it may only affect one or two domains once in a while."

Based on everything, I think that if you don't have connections at #GoDaddy but you are a regular #domainer like most of us and you sold a #domain through #Afternic, you won't receive your payment anytime soon. I wonder if this issue will affect sales on Dan too (
@undeveloped
). It's probably better to move your landers to Dan, or maybe somewhere else.
This kind of situation doesn't look good; it's pretty similar to how the #Epik saga started before their fall.
I believe with the rise of many new and good registrars, marketplaces, the good days for GoDaddy are numbered, and that's probably why they are reducing their stuff, closing tools and asking ridiculuous prices for it, closing platforms, while competitors are growing, doing the exact opposite, implementing new tools, rebranding to top tier domains, reducing commission fees and more.

Hopefully they pay all those fellow domainers, they are not the ones who need to fix Godaddy's troubles, we are not a bank, just pay to your customers, we domainers are paying millions to godaddy every year in reg fees, sales fees and more, the minimum GD should do is PAY THE DAMN MONEY!!.

Purely speculative in my opinion

Just the news I needed to hear with a couple of pending transactions at GD.

GoDaddy was in good shape and making a nice profit with a solid balance sheet, until the executives got all scared due to some large investor groups threatening them if they didn't raise profits. So the self-serving execs made some horrible short-term decisions designed to increase immediate revenues, but with the prospect of some long-term pain to go along with it.

I think we're seeing the pain phase right now.

See above, I am totally GoDaddy free now with nothing on anyone of their market places.
I have no registered domains or any service of any kind at GoDaddy, they lost a small fortune from my account.

It started with....

  • 25% nameserver commission
  • increase in discount club
  • absurd registration prices
  • charging for appraisals (new)
  • just over the top bills for almost everything

Domainers used to get treated good, now I can get better deals everywhere and when Efty Pay comes in at 5% the Dan pushes will probably disappear as well.

Right now Escrow is reasonable as well but it scares a lot of clients away having to go through all that.

I actually feel quite bad, I liked the bulk tools at GoDaddy quite a lot and right now I am having quite a few problems with the WHC control panel, it seems to be going backwards and everything I touch is either not working or wont load. So I miss the ease at which I was able to make bulk changes but I also don't miss them locking my account everytime I tried to conduct business whenever I was out of country on holidays.

Is jackdomainer really an authority figure on anything?

I think GoDaddy just has general system issues.

I had a Dan.com LTO that was a week late for some reason, but at the same time I made an Afternic sale on Thursday and received payment Monday morning.

Their payout system can be very inconsistent. I doubt it is cash flow related though.

Maybe not, but there is a lot of money to be made there. I've worked for a few big companies and at one of them the VP of Finance showed me some tricks of the trade (like weekend interest and hedges) that amounted to millions of dollars a year in profit, by just not paying any bills on a Friday and using that excess cashflow from Saturday to Sunday.

Back then it was not that prevalent but today it's SOP, and I can't even imagine the new "cash flow tricks" a public corporation like GD pulls in 2024, especially with an impending investor revolt that is screaming "More Profitssssssss!"
