I found this post on another forum. How does this work? How does one make a business off of it?
 
I'm assuming that at that price, they're happy to get a free taste of the domain with 2+ months left to see if there's any traffic they can make use of. I bet it's a "push only" scenario so they don't have to pay for the renewal until they've decided it they want to keep it or not.

Very interesting! I wonder what scale one needs to operate at for this to be profitable.

They may also be one of those outbound sales spammers that just tries to sell these domains before they expire, you know, the "this domain similar to yours is available to purchase"
