They're selling subdomains and quite honestly MapleDots.it.com looks like crap compared to MapleDots.com
Who in their right mind would build a business on someone elses sub domain?
What are the assurances in the future... what if it goes bankrupt?

US.com started doing this like nearly 2 decades ago. I think it was intended to be a poor man's ccTLD.
So probably only italians would consider it, and only just the dumb ones.
Yeah, I don't understand why .us is not doing better.
That said .co.uk is still outselling the newer .uk with a lot of businesses not spending the money to secure the .uk which has since opened to anyone.
Eventually .uk will outsell .co.uk as the public gets used to it because we see the rest of the world leaning to shorter is better.
So now lets go backwards and go back to longer with MapleDots.it.com

You'd have to be insane to tie a business or email to a privately-owned subdomain. It could get sold, the company could go under or any other type of mishap could happen.
P.S. co.uk is different as that was initially designed as that ccTLD base, and is still owned/controlled by the Brits, but simply delegated to a registry (Nominet UK). I also think .UK will eventually take over for the reasons stated above.
