Domain investing is a challenging business. It takes a considerable amount of time and money to build a domain investment portfolio, and there is no guaranteed success. Domain investing can be a lucrative business, but there is a pretty steep learning curve for most people.

This morning, I saw a tweet from someone named Tony who reported six figures in domain name sales:

That is quite impressive. Would be good to know what type of names he’s investing in or at least share a couple of the sold names.

Without all the numbers (sales, expenditures + renewals, other expenses, etc.) it's impossible to properly quantify those results.

It's like me listing all the houses and properties I've sold in my lifetime, but without telling you the initial cost + commissions + renovations + other improvements I made. it would make me look like a multi-millionaire.

Tony actually posted that of the $125K in revenue, 17-18% went to commissions (I used 17.5%), which would leave:

$104K

He also spend $15K as an initial investment, which would leave:

$89K

And of that, he has reinvested $90K into his domain portfolio (I am assuming that includes renewal costs), which, taking into consideration rounding, would mean he's running about even for P&L right now, which sounds about right.

($1K) to $0

So no real profit for 2021, but it's a good tax tactic to reinvest into your portfolio rather than paying 10% or more to The Man.
