Mint.io sells for 250K USD, which makes it the top .io sale to date.

The .io extension has existed since 1997 but is essentially only picking up steam these last couple of years. The first ever reported 6-figure sale only occurred on March 5th this year (metaverse.io @ 175K USD), and there's already been 4 more since.

I can remember maybe 5 years ago buying my youngest a toy and it came with a slither.io web address for a game, and it was tough to figure out if it was even a web address.

My how times have changed.

It’s definitely a tech thing, and new trends like crypto, nfts and the metaverse are definitely giving the .io extension a boost.

It’s all quite new so it’s hard to know for certain if it will stick around and become mainstream. I have some doubts but I’m not sure I would prefer .net or .org either if I were a tech entrepreneur outside of Canada.
