Hello DN.ca

I am looking to sell bucket.ca

I am new to domaining. Can you please help figure what would be a fair value for this name?

Sincerely
AR

I would hang on to it. You might sell it here for $100. The only reason you would get $4,000 (as below) is if some business needed it. Say If a packaging business wanted it. Buckets.com redirects to Mauser Packaging Solutions Domains are a high risk of losing money investment!

Thanks Danto. I'll wait for a couple months and then I might launch a simple SaaS tool on it.

Welcome aboard @rath

bucket.ca was from a recent TBR drop and sold for around $700 which is probably pretty well the wholesale price or it would have sold for more.
TBR Drop - Aug 7, 2024

The reason it did not sell for more is that it's not a name that has broad application or appeal.
That said, for the right company using that word the appraisal from Estibot above would be a bit low for a one word domain to an end user.

In my portfolio I would shoot for 10k but it might be a long hold to find an end user.

Often you can look at the .com and if it's not developed then you know even larger companies are not looking at the word for a brand, (or the seller is asking too much). That said bucket.com is for sale and that probably figured in to the $700 sale price at tbr where domainers thought the branding possibilities are not strong enough to warrant a higher wholesale price.

Thank you @MapleDots.

That's very insightful. I would continue to hold it and since it's a nice and easy to remember name, I might launch something on it myself.

I was looking at some previous sales on excellent.ca. It appears as if they let some very nice .ca names go for prices that don't seem fair the names. I wonder why. (Bloom.ca and zoom.ca both under 30k)

.CA is not .COM and our ccTLD has a microscopic market size compared to other global TLDs, so .CA end user prices will be significantly lower than the corresponding .COM, or even other popular extensions. Plus, Canadian companies are notoriously cheap and .CA resale can be a very difficult business to make money at.

Bucket.ca is a tough one to gauge, and I was very surprised it sold for higher than Chuck that week, since as Maple stated the word just doesn't have the brand appeal or usage of other words that would sell at that same wholesale-auction price level.

With .CA you make money on the buy, as in getting quality domains for as low a price as possible to ensure a large enough "domain math" profit margin, given our tiny market and cheap buyers. For example, with a $700 domain and an overly optimistic (in 2024) 2% STR (sell-through rate), you would need to sell it for $35,000 to break even the first year.

it could have some clever use for a tech start up, as there are more meanings to 'bucket' than just a metal pail you fill with water. for example digital or physical storage, or 'bucket list'. Looks like the .com is also available, which could end up being a blessing if it's acquired for a big idea that goes global.
