So I own a few US city/state .ca names. I couldn’t help but notice that one of them has a rather high Estibot evaluation.

Estibot values Seattle.ca at a whopping $43,000. It is obviously worth no where near that. Can someone possibly explain how this number could be so high?

If you’re like me, you probably don’t look much into these valuations anyway but it’s still fun to look at regardless.

My guess it is interpreting the .ca as California.

Maybe because it's a border city that gets a lot of Canadian visitors, so could have some travel-related value. Look how many Canadians went down there recently to watch the Blue Jays games.

or, estibot is just screwed up. would make more sense if Seattle was in California.

Honestly, there are so many variables to go wrong when using automated valuations. Its quite possible they're just taking their .com valuation and dividing by 10 or something - so not taking into account the TLD and its geographical significance.

I'm assuming many data points are used in their appraisal methodology, but there does (at least on the surface) appear to be a correlation with percentages in this instance. When comparing Seattle.ca and Seattle.com, and LasVegas.ca and LasVegas.com, both sets of .ca are in the general range of 2.75% - 3.25% of the .com.

I think it’s safe to say that these appraisals all mean absolutely nothing. Very difficult to appraise a domain as not everyone is willing to pay the same price. This is not a house or a diamond we are appraising.
