I predicted this would happen, the GoogleDomain exodus will be intense, in the end what did SquareSpace actually get for the money?

Anyone know how to check how many domains are currently still at GoogleDomains?
They don't care about the money they'll make from domain renewals. Like Wix or Shopify, Squarespace makes majority of it's money through their website builder. Even if they're only able to convert 1% of the 10 million domains they've acquired, that's an extra $36,000,000 in annual revenue.

But it's much much easier to change your registrar than to change your hosting... Even 1% conversion could be a pipe dream.

This is a domaining forum. While you and I might move our domains away from Squarespace, the average customer is complacent and couldn't care less who their registrar is. WordPress offers free transfers, the community hypes it up, and yet they've only converted a measly 0.04% of the acquired customer base.

Do not forget these SaaS companies live and breathe customer attrition.

I am part of some pretty large developer groups, everyone I know using google domains is or has left. Developers used google domains for specific reasons. Once the domains sits at squarespace the reason to stay with google domains is done and you can save money going elsewhere.

I was paying $17 CAD for my domains there and now pay 11 at whc.

No reason to stay, the only reason was the google integration with google services.

Again, the average customer isn't hardcore into domains. A layman isn't going through the hassle of transferring their website, email and other services to save a few bucks a year.

Does anyone here truly think Squarespace, a no-code website builder, is trying to appease developers?
