Everybody's jumping on the bandwagon, I'd like to see how many domains are still registered to google domains at this point.
They don't care about the money they'll make from domain renewals. Like Wix or Shopify, Squarespace makes majority of it's money through their website builder. Even if they're only able to convert 1% of the 10 million domains they've acquired, that's an extra $36,000,000 in annual revenue.I predicted this would happen, the GoogleDomain exodus will be intense, in the end what did SquareSpace actually get for the money?
Anyone know how to check how many domains are currently still at GoogleDomains?
But it's much much easier to change your registrar than to change your hosting... Even 1% conversion could be a pipe dream. They don't care about the money they'll make from domain renewals. This is a domaining forum. While you and I might move our domains away from Squarespace, the average customer is complacent and couldn't care less who their registrar is. WordPress offers free transfers, the community hypes it up, and yet they've only converted a measly 0.04% of the acquired customer base. But it's much much easier to change your registrar than to change your hosting...
