TBR Drop - Aug 24, 2022 (1.Viewing)

Same domain as me, PinkLotus.com.

I am assuming the existing $20 order on WHC was from the week before and just got pushed into the next TBR round.

I’ve had it take over a week…not a big deal.

I’m never in a rush to pay :)

I used to not care either, but once they moved to eTransfer-only, I like to get that puppy in quick and during business hours if possible.

When I could use Paypal, I didn't give a crap.

No, but it's not that unheard of for it to go this long, I've had it take until Friday in the past.

Wasn't that when the main MyID gal was on vacation and someone else took over and totally screwed the pooch?

I have no idea, I just get the feeling its completely a one person operation, with a relatively hands off owner when it comes to the every day tasks of running the business. I’m assuming that person does disappear on occasion for life’s distractions like vacations, kids, sick days, etc. I don’t think they’re avoiding it, just occasionally slower than usual.

Got my invoice and paid, so I can concentrate on other crap now.

Kind of a scam that the last week's bid on PinkLotus.ca was effectively protected from competition due to WHC - I almost put in a $60 bid on MyID just for spite, but I really didn't want to pay that much for that kind of low to mid-range quality.

That’s great to hear.

Maybe Leslie/Gus/Danny/Fayez or Jim are watching your posts closely.

When you put it that way, it sounds kinda creepy.

P.S. Which one of you knotheads won PinkLotus.ca? It's funny that the first week it was up, there was virtually no competition anywhere, then suddenly the second week, everyone wanted it.:geek:

I am he who got the domain. Yes, I requested it last week. When I tried to request it this week, it was coming up at $35. I didn't want to bid against me and left it at that. I have not done anything unusual here except that I had placed a request for that domain last week and was willing to do it again, as with another Registrar.

I know, it was just good luck on your part and I was just wondering who was able to win it.

But I see that PinkLotus.ca was actually acquired by WHC. I was hoping that since your system didn't recognize it, therefore wouldn't try and register it - and that I'd get it at a different registrar. But that didn't happen, WHC still got it. How did that happen???

Looks like someone place a backorder on it this week, but not the week before and thus theirs went through. I'm hoping to have this fixed for next week, but can't guarantee this yet. My apologies that it lead to anyone missing the name at this point.

And for domains that actually need to be removed from the cart, that should really be done automatically, I agree.

EDIT: Looks like I'm not correct, we're investigating here why it went through for one if you, but not the others. Looks like a bug with the fix that we added to prevent this.

Or at least warn us early in the process that there is a problem.

Right now I have to 1) Add the domain to my cart, 2) Place the bid(s), 3) Submit Bids 4) Input my CC security code, and finally, 5) Place the order, before anything tells me that this domain is a problem and then totally blows up my well-planned TBR pre-order.

That is a LOT of steps before you get an order-killing error that is virtually impossible to fix without starting over from scratch, and even then there is no guarantee it will work...

Is it just me or do the TBR lists just keeping getting worse and worse.

And will it ever end?
I’ve barely ordered anything in over a month. Maybe more and more domainers are snatching up domains so fewer and fewer good names are dropping.

Possibly, but I still can't believe that the pick numbers seem to approach 200 each month - it wasn't that long ago that a weekly TBR pick total would be ~60 on a good week and 100 on a really good week.

Have you looked at some of the quality names being picked up though? A lot of head scratchers every week. We will see a lot of the same names being picked up this year on next years TBR. I guess for some, it’s worth the gamble.

Agreed, and it has to be newbies who really don't understand the .CA market and are using the "rules of .COM" to inform their choices. "Head-scratching" might be a vast understatement.

I've tried to give them advice on how to approach buying .CA for resale, but no one seems to be listening, so I stopped.

Okay, this is just great.

I get the following error whenever I try to change or update my domains at MyID:

Database error encountered
This script cannot continue, terminating.

So I decide to email MyID support, and guess what, I get the same error.... :poop: 😭

Here's their e-mail:

Thanks and I know, but I've never had any luck getting them to answer with anything but the Contact Form. I have sent an email just in case.

I'm also wondering if everyone else is affected as well.
