We don't want to tear down 1 house to build 3 new ones in its place with multiple families living in each one, but we want housing to be more affordable.

Nobody can use the public parking spaces on the street because everybody is parking there instead of in their garages, but we don't want to park in our own garage instead of the street.

We want the economy to grow and we want fast and reliable service from businesses but we don't want to reproduce to create new workers at anywhere near the replacement rate.

Is bending the laws of physics, supply/demand, and common sense really so much to ask?

And here I thought this was a domain forum, silly me! I'm not sure what I've gotten myself into here, didn't realize "DN" stood for "entitled boomers cry about problems they created while kicking away the ladder."

Namaste and inshallah, good luck in the next TBR friendos <3

1) It is impossible to "make housing more affordable" when our population is growing exponentially with 1.1 Million added last year and 90%+ of them going to our 5-6 biggest cities. It'll be 1.25 M next year, 1.5 M next year, etc. all in an effort to give Galen more mouths to feed, the Big Banks more free customers and Tim Horton's more helpless workers to abuse.

Talk about "bending the laws of physics" - these are unsupportable population numbers and even the Bank of Canada and outgoing head of Immigration Canada have stated this. We need immigration, as we always have, but rational numbers not massive, unprecedented numbers dictated entirely by "stakeholders" (i.e. billionaires businessmen).

2) We have 2 cars and we park both in the garage and the vast majority of our neighborhood either parks in their driveway or the garage. That's the Canadian way and any other way is the path to chaos. And as a white Canadian I'm in the serious minority here, so it's hardly race-related. More like class, education, upbringing, etc.

3) As predicted by many economists and even the BoC, our mass immigration plan has actually DEFLATED the Canadian economy as compared to other Western nations; our illiteracy rate is by far the highest of the group, and many of our cities are effectively bankrupt under the immense social strain, with Ottawa refusing to send them one extra penny.

The cherry on top was the influx of reports rating Canada absolute last in terms of current economic outlook among advanced countries, and extending that to the the forthcoming decades up to 2060. Essentially, due to our monstrous population growth + 'free money' fiscal policies + poor monetary policy, Canada is a great place for foreign interest to invest in rental units or sell fast food, but virtually nothing else.

This simplistic "More People!" economic strategy has been confirmed (duh!) to be the main driver of high housing prices and inflation in Canada, and it seems that once the basic inflation-fueled bills are paid to Galen and co. there is nothing left to drive the rest of the Canadian economy. Due to our incredibly high (and growing) illiteracy rates, our labor utilization, standard of living and real wages are projected to be bottom of the barrel.

And these projections have been confirmed by several sources, not just the OECD

But hey, at least Galen gets to buy a few more private islands, and the Big Banks + Tim Horton's get to report record earnings.

This will be my final word on our current and very-precarious economic situation (we are currently in the 1930's Depression-era in terms of similar economic performance) as I need to deal with Dan/GD deadbeats and next week's TBR. šŸ˜©

Wow, that's a completely different way of starting to post.

DN stands for DO NOT cut my internet connection while you are putting up those new houses on my street :ROFLMAO:

Welcome aboard @Jam (y)

Actually, that does happen, they tear down older properties and infill with duplexes or condos. Cities love it and encourage it. This way they collect more tax $$$ per foot of curb that they have to maintain with infrastructure.

I'm pretty sure that any one complaining about this issue certainly does park in their own garage.

Yes, that's an issue. But in all honesty, I think that's a good thing. Instead of always relying on more humans to take advantage of, like the giant pyramid scheme that it is, the human population needs to stabilize and come to an equilibrium and live within its means.

Is bending the laws of physics, supply/demand, and common sense really so much to ask?
Things definitely need to change - I think we're all in agreement there.

For the most part, tangents like this are a fairly rare occurrence. And the best way to not perpetuate these tangents is to not feed them. But we all get sucked in on occasion.
