Nope, Waterloo goes to it's own page on dn showcasing all the close match regional domains.

Okay this is a silly thing to dispute or argue over, so I shouldn't even post this.

But it is a dn.ca page showcasing a bunch of related domains for sale. The rest of those domains would still point to that page without waterloo.com even existing. So at best you could call it a novel use of dn.ca, but its hard to call a redirect to a for sale page a novel use of waterloo.com - which is what I thought @DomainRecap was alluding to. I'm just saying I was hoping to see a novel use of waterloo.com - which this was absolutely not.

Its not a big deal at all, I get it, you're trying to promote dn.ca and waterloo.com here and as well you should.

Nice domain - considering the recent prices, I think it was a good buy for someone. I put a little research into it and its seems some people were using the acronym as C-ME (see me). I wouldn't have thought of that usage.

I was just looking up Gloucester. On the downside, wikipedia says it was a former city, but now amalgamated into Ottawa. On the upside, it has/had a population of 150,000. I'm guessing a historical name doesn't just go away though

It's not really a historical name in Ottawa and many areas still use it as an address. It's still on maps as a geographical region if not a city.

I just wanted it to be the owner of Gloucester. LOL

Just for the record, I would have certainly taken it had I won the auction, I wasn't doing it solely to jack up the prices, its just a nice consequence when bidding on domains that you may deplete another guys wallet so that the other domains you're going after will have less competition, either that day, or the next week, or whatever.
This guy is ruthless ruthless I say

Ottawa guy here...Gloucester was it's own city until ~2000, so anyone over 30 would easily recognize the name and would use it to describe that part of town.

Aside from some associations and a high school and a crappy mall, there's no real commercial usage and I wouldn't see any of these groups paying a good price.

Might be good for a real estate agent, but we all know how smart they are :)

You probably dodged a bullet on that one

Like I said, I just wanted to own it to own it.

I realize it's a dying brand commercially, but a lot of people still use the name and it's present on maps as a region of Ottawa.

Waterloo Texas was renamed to Austin Texas yet there are still businesses using the widely recognized Waterloo name in business. Waterloo Sparkling runs under drinkwaterloo.com and it's one of the fastest growing sparkling water companies in the world. They recently announced they are branching out to Europe and the word drink means nothing there so I am hoping eventually they will come after Waterloo.

Same goes for Gloucester, the nostalgia part of it may eventually come into play as a company names the business after the cities history thus making the name a reasonable investment. I kind of concur with domainrecap, it would be a decent domain to have in ones portfolio.

Looks like people weren't spending much at myid since this week whc had all the best names.

I missed the end price of Vulture but I think it was around $500. RainCoast was just under $400. It's tough to keep track of MyID when you're madly bidding on multiple auctions.

I bid up a bunch of stuff, but it all went above what I deemed realistic for a .CA wholesale price so I came home empty-handed. What can you do?

Things are a lot more active at WHC, and if I felt the need to put some serious cash into a 1-word TBR, it would probably be something like Peace.

Yeah! I'm the big winner of a $35 auction at WHC!!

Now I just need to clear open some space on the credit card for that massive expenditure. :p
