TBR Drop - May 29, 2024 (1.Viewing)

The math is a bit off….

Agreed and I freely admit that my "domain math" requires far more than just "breaking even", which was the main purpose of Bob's article on NP, i.e. to demonstrate the basic math.

If you want a 30-40% ROI on your entire portfolio, then the individual numbers are going to jump considerably, as well they should.

Thanks for the update. I think it’s probably at fair value at that price. Anything higher and it’s in overpriced territory.

Interesting read about the company that owns CBD.com, Christian Book Distributors. When cannabis started to become legalized, they quickly rebranded to Christianbook.com. I (and many others) assume this was done in case they received an offer they couldn't refuse, even though they say it was to eliminate confusion.

Interesting read but I highly doubt a company that has hundreds of employees and has a revenue in the millions changed their name for a payday. I think it truly was to make sure there was zero confusion. As a Christian book store I doubt you would want to be known as CBD. The name change is an obvious one for me and I bet you any money that no CBD company will pay them enough to let go of it as I’m sure it brings them traffic and business.

I find it weird that CBDoil.com sold for half a million dollars, and then, not even a month later, they changed their domain name and started replying to purchase inquiries saying they'd entertain offers in the 'mid-to-upper eight figure range.' I'm sure there were some confused customers calling, but that wasn't the deciding factor, especially for a religious bookstore in the 21st century.

Twist ending on today's last-name domain auctions on WHC.

I was really hoping to win Spry.ca today, as I thought it was the best non-CBD domain on the TBR. But last week I was feeling pretty smug, so I laid down my max bids on some of the others, including the surnames I had serious reservations about, all the while assuming I'd be handily outbid by the TBR Crew and could then push my chips in on Spry. Just trying to keep everyone honest.

Unfortunately, my early bids were the final ones placed for these domains, and due to me winning and Spry pushing $200, I subsequently ran through my very limited (hey the economy sucks) weekly TBR budget before I could outbid the winner of Spry. In other words, the WHC TBR auction worked out exactly the opposite of how I thought it would.

Or as one baked potato in the oven said to the other, "Foiled Again!"

CBD is still at $7500. Any predictions on the final price?

I’m saying it will go at least double that. Could see some last minute bidding.

And CBD sold for $7500.

Not surprising in this economy with limited corporate expenditures for domains and a pending border strike that could really hit our 3rd world marketplace hard.

Plus CBD.ca is a Catch-22 - it's not a brand and even at $7500, it tough to turn a "domain math" profit selling to a non-CBD company that uses those 3-letters as their acronym.

So this is why I rarely play the lotto. :)

I think we can't underestimate the impact of HC.ca hitting the TBR a week after CBD. HC is easily the more attractive domain and I think some money that might have gone to CBD, is instead being siphoned over to HC.

I think this was expected. I bid it up to $7,500 but unfortunately did not see any value above that price. So I passed.

I think all eyes will be on HC next week. Who knows when the next 2 letter .ca of this calibre will become available in a TBR.

I believe the C is huge since of course it could be anything Canada. Hockey Canada comes to mind.

Oh boy, should've checked the times of auction end 🤦‍♂️

Was ready to fire, congrats to the wiener

I was going to bid on it but HC.ca intrigued me more, I think it has more potential and I will keep a close eye on it.

Besides bidding at grape is new to me and WHC is much more active here so I'm more comfortable bidding at whc for higher value domains.
