TBR Drop - Nov 16, 2022 (1.Viewing)

Could someone with a CatchDrop auction confirm this please.

I made the first bid on a domain, then someone else followed with a late second bid... the auction is at $8.88 yet I am LOSING it. And I could have sworn I was winning yesterday.

How the hell does that make sense? The last bidder gets the lead in the case of a tie? And not that I expect to win at $8.88 but I was thinking of putting in a small proxy to increase my top bid level, but not any longer.

In anyone else in a similar scenario because it looks sketchy to me.

@CatchDrop just joined the forum, maybe they can answer your question.

Good afternoon to all,
In regards to the above mentioned issue, you are correct. We noticed this timestamp prioritization issue since early morning and our tech team are working on it as we speak, this issue will be resolved permanently in the next few hours. CatchDrop was developed in order to bring a platform with the utmost transparency. So nothing sketchy here :)

We are still in beta soft launch and appreciate all feedback from our current users, our support team can be reached here: Catch Drop

Thanks for the update.

And on that note, if I am "winning" an auction at min-bid, any future proxy bids would just silently go on top without affecting the current bid, right?

I ask because the FAQ only covers proxies if you are currently losing - plus you guys are in beta.

I bid yesterday and I set my proxy bid quite high. Apparently the other guy set his much higher so the higher bid showed up pretty much instantaneously over mine.

Yep, so far so good and everything looks solid and logical now.

I'll experiment with some "proxies while in the lead' bids and see if these function as expected.

Thanks for the quick response.

Oooops, I spoke too soon. After placing the Proxy Bid on a domain I was winning, I received a 500 | Server Error message.

It was a bid number higher than the next bid and not an increment (such as Next Bid: $18.88, Proxy Bid of $42), if that has anything to do with it.

@CatchDrop

Maybe introduce yourself here: Welcome, CatchDrop
Hi Frank,
Thank you so much for the warm welcome :)
Yes definitely was planning to introduce myself and CatchDrop officially but was caught off guard with the previous post and wanted to address it immediately.

CatchDrop is proud to launch as the FIRST & ONLY .CA expired domains public live auction CIRA accredited Registrar. Our vision was to bring a platform with the utmost transparency where all bids are public information, in light of raising awareness to the value of domains to the broad public in general. Where anyone can participate at anytime even if they did not backorder a domain in advance.

We also have many great innovative features coming soon and we invite everyone to create an account and start catching great domains.

Happy Catching to all

Warm Regards,
Yaacov Abenhaim

That is the part that sets it apart, I cannot tell you how many times I missed the deadline but still wanted to bid on a domain.
I was contemplating opening up a business that would go to the top 3 drop catchers and have a proxy bidder bid on my behalf. That company could have bid for anyone on any domain for a small 2% fee.

There might still be a need for a service like that given the drops are mostly spread between the top 3 catchers.

I am not sure what error 500 you are referring to, please DM me your account name and we will contact you to troubleshoot and resolve any issues you may be experiencing

Has anyone tried to register with CatchDrop? No luck on this end after several attempts

Replying to this missed question:
And on that note, if I am "winning" an auction at min-bid, any future proxy bids would just silently go on top without affecting the current bid, right?

If a proxy bid is placed above the minimum backorder of $8.88, if that domain is caught and was ordered by 2 or more users then at the beginning of the auction the next minimum bid increment will be placed from that users proxy (reserve) up to the next minimum bid increment according to the highest proxy from all users.

Example: 4 backorders total on a given domain: 3 backorder bids of $8.88 and 1 user placed a proxy of $100
At the beginning of the auction the user with the $100 proxy bid will be leading/winning the auction at $18.88 and the remainder of his proxy will be hidden in reserve until if another users places a bid above his entire proxy. which for this example scenario is $100

Hope this clarifies your question

Not specifically, as like the FAQ this only addresses past proxy bids.

Scenario:

4 people bid $8.88 for a domain - it goes to auction and the PinheadBob username is initially in the lead.

1) PinheadBob bids $50 in proxy
2) Later Pinhead Bob bids $100 in proxy just to make sure he wins

In both 1) and 2) cases, the original $8.88 auction price/bid should not increase (assuming no one else bids concurrently), right, and PinHead Bob should see $50 and then later $100 in the green proxy bid section while the auction price sticks at $8.88.

It's logical, but the FAQ only covers proxies made prior to the auction and as the losing bidder, not as the winning bidder, and as I stated earlier, I attempted to test the functionality on a live auction and got an error.

FAQs are meant to cover most frequently asked questions and will never cover all. We will definitely keep growing our FAQs as time goes.

In regards to your scenario, yes a user/bidder can increase his proxy bid as many time as he wants and it will remain in proxy so long another bidder has not placed a higher bid/proxy.

Relating to the live auction error that you mentioned, we currently do not have any open support tickets with that issue and everything is working fine.
When a technical issue is experienced if any, users should open a support ticket and our team will address it immediately.
What is your CatchDrop username? I will gladly look into your account and make sure that your able to bid as you wish.
