Diesel is at $400 start at Siber right now. Not much to hope for with them if the last few weeks are any indication

And just when we don't expect it, Siber wins the name! Looks like Siber actually didn't pull a boner this week... but there's always next week.

Hopefully they got what I wanted

Well Siber is back in the game as they picked up:

diesel
mutualfund

as well as a bunch of others.

Of domains I was watching, no one other than myid or sibername got anything. not a thing.

It's not surprising Siber is back, I think it was a matter of time. Combining two companies always have glitches; TBR too profitable to ignore for long.

interesting the better one of the names noemi ended up going to myid when i was in quebec it was pretty common :)

Yep, Siber is back, but MyID is pushing them with a lot of big wins like PDI.ca and MTY.ca, as well as a ton of other LLLs. With their buying crowd, PDI was probably in higher demand than Diesel, which incidentally brings a CDRP risk because Diesel (the closing company) owned it but Momentis dropped it on them (probably by accident).

Nice name, but I'm a little hesitant to put too much $$$ in case Diesel IT comes looking for their little lost lamb, with lawyers in tow.

The clothing company has the TM for clothing etc. A good name with lots of uses outside that.

I know, but I have seen this crap before, where a company mistakenly drops a domain and immediately launches a CDRP, where the panelists seem to be more than willing to get the two back together again.

Look what the CIRA did when Purolator dropped Purolator.ca - they got a phone call and totally broke the rules by removing the domain from the TBR run and gave it back to Purolator.

This is not just a TM issue, it's a past ownership problem, and our Canadian panelists just love to "make things right" with their corporate overlords. The pandemic makes this outcome even more likely, assuming Diesel IT didn't drop Diesel.ca on purpose.

Agree. Merging systems is a nightmare, adapting to a new system just as bad. I am assuming they may have bought Sibernames technology and know how but it may have taken sometime to adapt or workout the glitches

That is embarrassing! Deisel prides themselves on selling blue jeans for $500 a pair, you would think they could afford to have someone look after their IP

I suppose the pandemic has created problems for companies with people working from home and somehow stuff slips through the cracks

A new rep from WHC.ca [notify]efalcon[/notify] signed up but he did not post.

I made him a Representative so maybe he will come in now that I tagged him.

I was thinking maybe he is the sibername rep because Sally would have seen us chat about that by now.

I am hoping they aren't moving the Siber TBR servers from Ottawa (current) to Montreal (WHC), as when you're talking about nano-seconds, geographical proximity to the CIRA Ottawa offices & systems does matter.

That's one reason why none of the West Coast operations ever challenge the Ottawa-Toronto group. And anyone remember when POOL took part in the TBR and was always near the top? Their office was located right next door to the CIRA, on purpose.

And Diesel wasn't even in charge as they only had the Tech Contact - the Admin Contact was from Momentis, who clearly dropped the ball here. And yes, I can see companies calling "pandemic!" when trying to recover their valuable domains.

The purolator issue is a non starter of sorts and I will tell you why. Puroplator has the strongest trademark protection you can possible have .... a coined term....there are no REAL OTHER uses for the name so they dod everyone a favour! NOW if they were to pull the same thing with Diesel or a other generic name with many alt uses that I think would be a true circumvention of the system and present a real problem

Not justifying the purolator move as it could always be used as a prescedent I suppose but as I said I think Puroplator has a very case. Just my thoughts

Do you know what I hate?

The TBR jumped ahead an hour, but we still have to wait until 4PM to see our Siber winnings and til 5PM for the auctions.

The suspense is literally killing me!!

Of course Purolator would get it back, and anyone bidding is making a big mistake, but the point is that this type of behavior is not in the CIRA's mandate. Obviously it was done because Purolator is a Crown corporation and the CIRA is a government entity, where someone big at Purolator (or even bigger in parliament) called someone big at CIRA and forced the deal.

But it should never have happened that way, and I think it sets a horrible precedent and represents an extremely slippery slope.

Who's gonna call next week? If Justin.ca drops can the CIRA expect a call from the PM?
