Sorry to freak everyone out! It was a 'meh' domain, I wouldn't have renewed it if I owned it, one of those domains where you wonder who would actually want it and what would they do with it? I think the former owner was pruning their portfolio.

What's amazing is all the .xyz domain sales every week. Probably could have picked up a ton of good keywords at one time, now they sell for x,xxx to xxx,xxx all the time. Just incredible but I can see once a few in the tech/crypto space started using them, then it became like a green light for others to do so. What used to be the 'new gtlds' are not so new anymore, and I see many websites using non-traditional extensions nowadays.

[notify]MaiTaiMan[/notify] do you see any demand or a pick up in interest from your clients in the newer extensions? Have any of them asked about .io, .co, .xyz, .ai and others?

The vast majority of my clients are outside of Canada, but even the Canadian ones tend to be looking to buy .com. Traitors, LOL. And if it's not .com, then it's a specific ccTLD (some of which are a huge P.I.T.A. to move/transfer) or it's .co (quite popular, especially with startup folks), .io (somewhat popular with the geeky ones), with the occasional long-tail consisting of just about everything else, .app, .gg (gaming), .ai, .global, .whatever... The Web3 crowd is aware of .xyz and it's been wild to see that take off.

Of note is that a significant percentage of my clients are coming to us to 'upgrade' their domain from .co or .io or a ccTLD, which further reinforces that .com is still King. I would estimate that 90%+ of the folks we talk to would *prefer* to own the .com if they could afford to or if it was available. I think that is very telling.

I was thinking about whoever bought hype today.

Hype.taxi is a taxi service in Paris (noticed one today).

Also noted that Hype.fr redirects to the .com

Obviously the .com picked up some ccTLDs.

Not sure who bought it but they could be a member here. I don’t recognize “TrueNorthBlend” though.

Interesting that the .fr redirects to the .com. It’s amazing what you see when you’re out and about and just happen to notice that the .ca name just dropped.
