I saw that too, truly is odd

What else is odd is to see you bid $950 for it.

Can you share why you were willing to invest that much in the domain?

There are many reasons to be honest (backlinks, registered in 98, first name and many more) and if it wasn’t for seeing the price move like that towards the end I wouldn’t have stopped bidding. It’s as if I’m bidding against a machine….

Almost makes for an argument that bidder names should be disclosed. :-X

Pool.com use to have that which was great. I don’t recall the username but there was one that always seemed to be in every auction I was in and won a good majority of them as well.

Pool.com really was the TBR leader back in the day. It was good because most used either their alias or a random bidding ID. I remember having a list of who was who. It was always easy to find out after the TBR and eventually I compiled a list. It’s always good to know who you’re bidding against. ;)

Yeah, the good old days, and it certainly didn't hurt that only a wall separated your TBR servers from those of the CIRA.

I remember some other "cool" registrars rushing to host with the same provider for the same reason. LOL

The high bid went from $999 to $1,000 with no new bids. As you can see my last bid was $950. If someone had a proxy bid of $999 why did it change to $1,000?

The whole thing confuses me. Regardless, congrats to winner.

The bid that brought it to $999 and the bid that brought it to $1000 were both proxy bids, that were bid up automatically by the system to the next higher amount.

Sorry, we had a glitch that sent emails saying that we didn't get the domains for a number of domains that we did actually get. We've fixed the issue which lead to this, so this should not happen again.

Regarding Bidder IDs

As you might know, we're working on bringing TBR to WHC. While we will not initially have bidder IDs there, we're considering adding this as a future feature, possible in an anonymized version though. While I myself have appreciated the ability to identify bidders in the past, I'm not entirely sure that this is ideal from a privacy perspective. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts here as I'm trying to balance privacy and transparency.

I would be ok if each account holder be given the option to either be known by their account name or an alias.

It's an interesting idea, in terms of transparency. I definitely wouldn't want my name front and centre, and probably not a username either, but I might be OK with random bidder IDs (I think?). Having different options sounds ok too, like [notify]Eby[/notify] said, since you have a choice.

Then again, I'm not crazy about the idea of people keeping track of every single bidder ID they're up against and then using it to their advantage. Perhaps I'm over thinking it, but I can imagine this influencing the way people will bid.

The only reason i'd perhaps like to see this is to ensure the registrar isn't doing anything ummm ... sneaky behind the scenes ... and that's not really a concern of mine with Siber/WHC. I trust your company, and even more now that you're there.

In other words, I'd probably like to see this feature at other TBR registrars before Siber/WHC, where these "sneaky" things seem to happening for a while already. Not always, but often enough. I'm not the only one who has suspicions, but we could be wrong.

I would very much echo that. It's not Sibername/WHC that I worry too much about and well said about [notify]Esdiel[/notify] about you being there now. Adds so much credibility!!

Thank you for the kind words. You're making me blush

In my opinion it will be more profitable for WHC to show bidder ID's because I know I would be more inclined to bid higher if I knew I was going up against a real person and no shenanigan's.

Any closed, private bids, or anonymous bids will always leave a bad taste in the other bidders mouths. It should be transparent the same way I bid on a car at auction. I can see my foe and we know we are real people bidding on a real product.

I think the reputation of WHC will be hurt if the process is not fully transparent. We can disguise things under the term PRIVACY but in the end that just means a closed system that cannot be scrutinized.

I am for transparency all the way *THUMBSUP*
