Plus if you ask around the forum us domainers all lose money.

The vast majority of domainers do lose money, they just call it an "investment in a Homer Simpson Grease Empire" and go on spending money. But hey, some people need another costly hobby, LOL

people on ei right now get around 890 for two weeks so i'd like someone to explain how it's us driving up the prices???

He's attempting a joke (badly) in tune with my comments that all the people sitting at home, including gov't workers collecting full pay, along with all the other rich shut-ins, with nothing to waste their excess cash on, are helping to drive up the price of stocks, crypto, sportscards, domains, NFTs, blockchain collectibles, etc.

Idle hands are the devil's workshop.

$6 NBA Hot Shots packs selling for $2K, every day a new record price on a Modern trading card, NFTs and NFT art setting price records, crypto coins spiking to unheard of levels before falling back, Reddit driving GameStop stock to the moon and creating mass chaos - no, all this would still be happening without the pandemic keeping people bored and in their homes. Sure...

This is an observed and confirmed economic trend that some choose to believe is pure fantasy and worthy of their poor attempts at humor.

So, any comments on this week's TBR?

ya there a few good domains and there going for way to high for most of us to be able to afford not just me :( lol

not the point im trying to make with what i wrote above but thanks for the suggestions spex

Just trying to help where I can. You said you wanted, but couldn't afford a nice 1word.ca so I gave you suggestions.

As for the overall theme of yours posts here today, not much else to say other than don't chase the top-end TBR names if you don't have the cash. If you're unemployed and living with your parents, you probably shouldn't be gambling on domains or any other "lottery" type things.

And don't expect domainers (or anyone really) to be nice and leave the good names to others.

Also, you mentioned you only have a couple decent names. Domaining is a numbers game, with a good sell-though rate being about 1 to 2%. Which means that you would have to have around 1200 names just to get an average of one sale per month. And those sales would probably only be the best names in your portfolio, with the other 1100+ names being ignored by end-users

If you look at all the good domainers (however you define 'good'), they all have thousands of domains but you only hear about their sales. No one is bragging about their drops

So don't sweat it too much. Just start small and build your way up. Take most of your names and try to flip them for cost or maybe even 2x and work your way up like most of us have done.

Even those "doctors" and "engineers" you're talking about probably aren't using their day-job money to play in domains. Their probably playing with profits that have been accumulated over the years

can't even start small when the small ones are going for hundreds these days... when a year ago they were " affordable " even for people in my situation...

Sorry Spex, the Mod is an idiot and your post got deleted.

I can only speak for myself; for me, my bidding decisions are based on;

1. Is it a good price for the domain?
2. Can I develop the domain?
3. (If 2 doesn't apply). Is there a reasonable chance to sell the domain in the next 5 years?
4. Can I afford or willing to pay the price to win the auction.

the way it should be done you dont need a portfolio of 100-1000 top or decent domains you obviously try to leave some for others :) which is nice to hear

At one time I had about 3,500 domains (1999-2010). I have under 200 now, with MANY related to candy. Of the domains I do own, ANY are available to trade for good .ca candy names of equal or close value.

PS. I am certainly not apologizing for having owned 3,500 domains. I worked a day job, then worked until 3 am in the morning everyday (I mean everyday) for over 10 years to chase names, research names, buy/sell domains, learn the domain business etc.

I know, but there is no way to nicely state that one.
