So now it's going to change to 3PM (from 2PM) and the effective soft deadline for ordering TBR domains will be 2:55PM (this week), and that will change to a hard deadline of 1:45PM/2:45PM when WHC takes over the TBR duties?

Sound right?

P.S. Why not create a hard pre-3PM deadline at Siber now instead of waiting? There is always a lot of last-second activity (which worked the previous 6 months) and people are still going to try to place bids at 1:59.XX like before and not get them ordered.

* This makes the deadline effectively 1 hour earlier than it was before the time "switch back" from 3PM EDT to 2PM EST (12PM PDT -> 11AM PST). In reality the time itself hasn't changed, just the timezone we're in ;-)
* For Sibername now it's best to place your backorder at least 5 minutes in advance in order to ensure priority.

* At WHC we'll have a hard 15 pre-drop deadline.
* Regarding introducing a hard deadline for Sibername, this is unlikely to happen, as we're trying to minimize code changes at Sibername at this point.

I know how to tell time (LOL) and CIRA moving to UTM, and I don't know if you realize this, but Siber has had a 2PM EST cutoff for a long time, spanning multiple Daylight Savings periods.

For example, prior to this latest back-an-hour DST change, the Siber cutoff was 2PM EST, and now you're saying it's changing.... to 2PM. It has been 2PM for the past 6 months when the TBR was run at 3PM. So your original statement about it previously being a 3PM EST cutoff was incorrect and a bit confusing - now see why I'm asking questions? :lol:

To be crystal clear, here are the most recent Siber TBR cutoff times:

Nov 2020 - Mar 2021 - 2PM
Mar 2021 - Nov 2021 - 2PM
Nov 2021 - Mar 2022 - 2PM

See? No 3PM cutoff. That's why when I emailed you about this, I surmised that Siber might actually drop the cutoff back to 1PM EST, due to the -1 hour DST adjustment.
 
I'll confirm this in the morning, but from my understanding, Sibername had a 2 PM EST (EST≠EDT) cutoff, even when it was EDT (so, technically it was 3 PM in daylight savings time). But I might be wrong and it's getting late, so probably I'm just confusing myself :D

Thanks for the clarification and that makes more sense, as it's been consistently 2PM for a long while. The same way NamesPro and others maintain a static 1:45PM EST time to be consistent, and not inadvertently screw up by not changing the time every 6 months.

It's actually a good corporate decision to go that "one time" route (although 1:45 would be cleaner) as several companies (MyID and Siber being of note) have forgotten - or their system forgot - to change the EST time due to DST and lost out on the top-half of a run before it was corrected.

Good thing it's such a weak drop this week, it allows WHC to get their feet wet with the time change.

Hopefully the learning curve is done next year and everything will be smooth sailing moving forward with the twice yearly time changes.

I feel there are still much better names left on Mike’s list that was listed on here better than these.

But yet I bet some of these will go for more than $300.

I agree, but it's the allure of the TBR list + multi-bidder frenzy that tends to do it.
 
Damn, I totally didn't follow my own advice and I put in a few bids at 1:59... ooops. Thank God it was a bad week.


And in a HUGE SURPRISE, my top pick of the week (CHE.ca) went in a BIN to Burmac/Dot-CA. Wow.

Some of it is "buying just to buy" but Webnames (aka Last Minute Larry) also grabbed about a third of that total at the end.
