TBR Musings - November 25, 2020 (2.Viewing)

So far there has been absolutely no movement at Siber on any of the auctions I have live, and we'll have to wait a bit to see if one of them has any "gas" left in the tank for a late run.

Mine either. Deisel.ca is out of what I'm willing to pay for it.

Cheap is definitely right up my alley this week, but unfortunately the domains aren't agreeing.

Really nice name though. I bailed at $1,450.

I'm actually pretty sure you can pick that one up for around a reg fee :-X

Look at my previous post very carefully *JOKINGLY*

If I could ask every one for their undivided attention.....if you could please log out of your My ID accounts from 9:55 to 10:05 this morning it would be appreciated. I am doing some inventory updates. Thank you in advance for your cooperation

It's chump change in return for making the site easily accessible by phone.

I have way too many bookmarks already, Google always defaults to something else when you type in CANAD... (like Canada, Canada Post, Canadian Revenue Agency, etc.), and sitting there in the car clicking C-A-N-A-D-I-A-NT-I-R-E-.-C-A on that small keyboard, just to check stock on an item, is hell especially in the winter.

And not to be glib about money, but CT's revenue last year was 14.53 BILLION dollars, and it's growing at a nice rate.

You make some very interesting points here and if they were ever explained to Crappy Tire they may see the value and utility more clearly. A salesman job is to show purchasers the value in their products

Yet somehow, they did all that revenue without CT.ca ;)

LOL
The one thing you learn after being around the domain space for a few decades is....the domain name isn't everything

Sometimes you are the bug, and sometimes you are the windshield. I was in an auction on a domain on MyID today and I had accidentally put in a proxy bid of $2,111...I MEANT $211. The bid finally got beat. Today, I was the windshield.

Come on, that's specious logic for a huge national company like CT with ~1700 stores and a massive revenue stream long before the Internet was even a gleam in an engineer's eye - its like saying your favorite winter jacket protects you from Kangaroo attacks.

The only way to prove it is to go to Australia and fight some kangaroos.

Botton line, they are doing fine without it.

I don't even have it in me to bid on anything today and I'll just have to be satisfied with my bargain bin domains.

Yea, I got a couple of lottery tickets too.

Of course and they would also do just fine without a website at all. 1700 retail stores is a massive amount of brick & mortar overage for Canada, while their microscopic online sales don't even register. Like I said, CT was a massive Canadian icon long before the Internet.

The key is would their revenue increase by more than the acquisition cost of a better, more mobile-friendly domain or alt-domain? I say a resounding yes, no question, as it would probably only account for 0.0000005% of 2020 revenues for CT.ca, and much, ,much less if they use a 3-letter forwarder like CTS.ca.

But again, the only way to prove it either way is to go to Australia and fight some kangaroos.

So your main point is to never try to improve your business. Okay.

I'm a CT customer, and I HATE typing their ultra-long domain on my phone to check stock. HATE HATE HATE. There are times in the winter I don't even stop there because I don't need the hassle after a day at the salt mines.

And it doesn't even have to be CT.ca, and if they're living on Kraft Dinner and beans, then buy CTS.ca (Canadian Tire Stores) or a similar 3-letter that's sitting on the open market.

The only thing that stays the same is change. And businesses will go the way of the dodo-bird if they don't adapt to those changes.

I 100% agree and have been there done that trying to type in canadian tire on my phone even from within the store trying to check supposed inventory levels and aisle location when I can't find the product in store. So CT.ca would be awesome, even as just a shortcut. And there's no point in arguing, it would be absolutely nothing to them to drop $100K. You know how much typo-traffic there is on that stupid long domain??? That could be completely fixed with CT.ca. I've sold a .ca to them too, on a site they use as a sub-brand they own. They've inquired about another domain of mine too, but never pulled the trigger on it, its a .com/.ca pair. And of course we know about triangle as well, so they are willing to buy a domain. They may have simply not really considered the idea yet or connected the dots to understand the value and typo issue. The downside is that probably none of us own it, I think its one of those blackhole MyID domains... probably owned by the owner of MyID - if I had to guess.

And yeah, the app thing. I agree 100% on that too. First every biz had to have a loyalty card. Now its the damn app. If my phone could bulge like my wallet from 20 years ago, it would have exploded. I have one app to track all loyalty card numbers, that's all I want or need, I barely need a wallet, there's no cash, no loyalty cards now, just ID and a few financials (bank/visa/amex). So I just don't install retailer apps and have purged the couple I had installed. I'd rather go back to websites than apps, unless I _really_ use that app a lot, or it adds some functionality I can't get in a website. I do use my bank & investment co app, those add security over the website, so I'm good with that. But for the countless retailers? No thanks, I don't use them enough to justify an app for every one of them...

OMG! That is hilarious! & fortunate!
Today I was in on an action at MYID and I mistakenly put in a high proxy and NO one else bid
Today I was the BUG
