TheJW.org: UDRP denied for parody domain aimed at Jehovah's Witnesses (1 Viewing)

The domain TheJW.org points to an active web site that is a parody of JW.org, the web site of the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society (aka Jehovah’s Witnesses.)

The parody element of the web site is evident; there is no attempt to impersonate the real JW.org content. In a UDRP filed by the operators of JW.org, the parody element was used by the Respondent as part of their response.

Indeed, the WIPO panelist noted:

“In the present proceeding, the Panel finds that it would be readily apparent to Internet users (including Jehovah’s Witnesses) upon visiting the Website that it is not the Complainant’s website, but is rather a website critical of the Complainant.”
