Kitchener-based meat subscription company sold for $16.8M

A locally-sourced meat subscription service based in Kitchener, Ont., has been acquired by Canadian e-commerce company Emerge Commerce for approximately $16.8 million.

TruLOCAL allows customers to order regular boxes of products – such as grass-fed beef, wild-caught salmon, and chicken raised without antibiotics – from Canadian suppliers.

The company generated revenue of $19.8 million in the 12 months ending Dec. 31, 2020, representing year-over-year growth of 130 per cent, according to a news release issued by the parties Tuesday.

First let me apologize for the click bait title because the company sold for 16.8 million and not just the domain name.

That said, in this case the company is really not that much more than the domain name so it goes to show that local sells and I am sure the food companies are well aware of the push online.

Coincidentally our member [notify]Esdiel[/notify] recently sold LocalShop.ca: https://dn.ca/topic/332/

Interestingly enough TrueLocal.com is owned by a US company that also owns TrueLocal.ca

This entire situation with all the Tru/True Locals is a bit confusing and I wonder how the US company got hold of such a nice .ca like TrueLocal.ca

Everything to make you go hmmmmm..... maybe we should discuss this :o

I thought they would need to have a Canadian presence to get the .ca *DONT_KNOW*
Trademark would aid in their eligibility for the .ca but I don’t see a trademark on the trulocal .com name

And there is a truelocal.com.au promoting local business in oz

Crap it gets weirder all the time..

Canadian Company

TruLocal.ca

US Company

TrueLocal.com
TrueLocal.ca
TruLocal.com

Yet all the time running under TruLocal so two companies are running under the same name.

Goes to show, one must secure their online identity.
