DN.ca exclusive


I can confirm that we.ca was sold for $50,000 a few years ago. The price has not been made public till now.

Unfortunately I do not know the year but it was more than 5 years ago I believe.

What are your thoughts? Under priced or great deal for buyer and seller?

I will email the previous owner again to find out the year.

Either one would have been a great price for a 2 letter .org. Some people value .ca’s about 10% of the value of .com’s so it would make sense that the .org sold for $500,000K.
 
I was way off when I mentioned a possible sale date for we.ca.

WE.ca was in fact sold in 2007.


So a 2 letter .ca selling for $50K over 13 years ago is a great price for it back then.

Who was the buyer (or seller) in 2007? If they were a public company, it might be possible (although that's a somewhat small transaction, so might not have been considered "material" unless the buyer or seller was also relatively small; things that are not material don't tend to end up in financial statements).

The buyer was the WE organization. The seller was an individual and not a company.

Maybe it’s possible that they (the buyer) had a broker and it sold through them. I wasn’t sure how easy/hard it is to see SEC filings from certain years of different companies.
 
WE Charity does file IRS Form 990 statements in the USA, but I'm not sure how it works in Canada, or where to obtain those financials.

So 8 million for the .com and 50k for the .ca but the .ca was sold a number of years back.


Now truth be told if we.ca was in my portfolio I would set the selling price at about 10% of the .com and use it to justify the price.

The .ca was sold in 2007. $50K CDN for a 2 letter .ca back in 2007 was a fair price. I’m not certain if the previous seller knew who the buyer was at the time but they could have gotten more perhaps if they did.

10% of the .com for a .ca is what a few people base their sales on. I can use rate.ca as an example which sold for $75,000 USD while the .com sold for $725,000 USD so around 10%.
