Was doing Whois on some .ca’s and noticed this…….

The creation date was 4 days ago??? I have a good idea as to why this is but would like other thoughts as well. Is this a common thing to see? Especially when a name like this wasn’t in the TBR recently.

PS: Don’t ask why I looked up this name in particular. It’s not what you think. ;)

Provincial upgrade is my guess.

My guess as well but kind of makes me wonder what took them so long….. Unless it’s a new owner who bought the provincial name then decided to wisely upgrade.

Mybrand.ca registered at myid.ca

They deleted oral.qc.ca

A lot of good domains registered at myid seem to be moving one way or another.

Good guess. Pretty sure it was an upgrade of oral.qc.ca.

The previous owners of that domain/website might have upgraded and sold it off... but it's also kinda strange/interesting how oral.ca now forwards to mybrand.ca which was only registered 9 days ago.

How about login.ca?

Looks basically identical to oral.ca. Also “created” on the same day as Oral.

Maybe someone did a mass contact of provincial name owners and bought them all? I’m sure there are more as well then it seems.

Doesn't the "creation" date reset when a domain gets TBR'd too?

So how could the same situation apply for login.ca, with the same dates? That makes it even more strange.

It does, but the thing is these never went to TBR.

The only thing I can think of is that a "buyer" knew of "someone" who owned these two domains (in .qc.ca) and struck a deal where they agreed to upgrade the domains to a .ca and sell them to the buyer.

That said, another weird thing is that oral.qc.ca isn't registered anymore (i assume it was dropped after the upgrade), HOWEVER, login.qc.ca still remains registered and is owned by Telus (despite someone else now owning login.ca). Strange set of facts and I'm almost certain these deals would have required CIRA's approval in advance.

Not anymore.. Oral.ca has a landing page.

Now that's when one would say "I smell something fishy"

Could this be something that [notify]richard.schreier[/notify] could enlighten us on? Could it be a little glitch at the CIRA end, which allowed it to happen? Both on the same day.. pretty ironic.

I remember CIRA cancelling such registrations when a similar thing happened years ago.
I was at the receiving end for no fault of mine. I forget the domain names now. It was that long ago.

I trust you man ;)

Been keeping my eye on 3 CIRA restricted domains for several years.

They were all expired, but CIRA wouldn't allow the .CA to be registered.

In May, 1 of these - BIO.ON.CA was "unrestricted" and someone registered www.BIO.ca

Maybe an insider knew about these and gobbled them up?

Just founds dozens more that were registered last week... looks like CIRA did a huge dump of previously "restricted" Provincial level domains, and all the good one's are now gone (CANS.ca, HGS.ca and dozens more...)

yah I missed Carlson.ca I kept looking and trying but nothing... kind of pissed off, CIRA would not say when it would drop, they wouldn't even give me the year..
