So I've had a webhosting plan for a few years that came with unlimited website hosting and email addresses. This was fine because I ran a website a while ago and also came in handy whenever I tried my had at "developing" some of my domains.

But lately I am basically just using it for a couple of email addresses on one of my domains.

What you you guys do for email on domains that don't have websites? Are there any good e-mail only plans out there where at decent prices?

There is a pretty easy solution that is totally free...

1. Switch registrars to Google Domains, they have free unlimited email forwarding.

2. Forward your me@website to a free me@gmail account

3. Set your outgoing gmail to use me@website as your default sending address

You are ready to go.

There are several steps to use me@website in gmail but it is still doable for free.

All my emails from my sites go to my gmail and then I use the me@domain that I want to use to send out.
I probably have a dozen send out emails me@dn, me@mapledots, me@mybusiness etc.

Every domain I use for commerce or email is hosted at google domains because it gives me the most flexibility for free subdomains and email forwarders at no extra cost. Well technically it is a bit extra because it costs $17 CAD to register most any extension for one year.

I tried Tutanota and Protonmail but found them to be lacking in certain areas. Switched to Fastmail and never looked back. All emails go to your default master inbox which is username@fastmail(dot)com.

Perks:
  • unlimited domains
  • 600 aliases
  • shared calendars
  • 1 admin account to manage all user emails
  • $5/month or $50/year (additional 10% off if you use my referral link)
  • operating since 1999

unlimited domains

By that you mean you can send out with me@mydomain?

I would imagine it works by changing the mx records to point to fastmail

Sounds very much like GoogleWorkspace and I wrote a tutorial about that where you can run unlimited user accounts on one license and it's totally legal.

Yes, that is absolutely right! And the best thing about it is that it’s not capped. If I’m not mistaken, Google Workspace has a limit of 20 domains.

You will never really run into the cap because in most cases you just forward the emails to your main inbox and then you send out with selected addresses. I cannot see myself ever sending out with more than 20 addresses.

PS. I also have a tutorial where you can get unlimited accounts on one license so technically the limits can be circumvented.

That’s a good workaround, but for less than the monthly fee of one Google Workspace account, I get two users on Fastmail. Also, I’m trying to de-Google myself mainly for privacy reasons.

I also know there’s mailbox(dot)org but I don’t have experience on that one.
