WHC - Auctions, TBR & backorders Support Topic

Hey, DN.ca community,

Ever had a hiccup with WHC auctions, backorders or TBR? Or got an idea on how we could do things better? We're all ears!

Drop your stories or suggestions in this thread. A quick rundown of what happened or your thoughts would be great. If you remember what led up to the issue, that'd be awesome too.

IMPORTANT! If you're stuck with something urgent, WHC’s live chat or the open ticket function in your WHC account is the fastest way to get sorted.

We are looking forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

/Frank, Chief Domain Nerd at WHC

Please Note: WHC.ca is currently a DN.ca sponsor and is actively supporting our forum expenses.
Whenever possible we ask you to return that support and use the TBR services of this wonderful sponsor.
WHC is quite active on DN.ca and responds rapidly to member questions, we can recommend them without hesitation.

Looking for a clarification. For domain transfers where it originates at WHC and proceeds to another WHC account, can you do authorization code transfer or do you only push domains?

Thanks

Is WHC considering opening TBR to the public? It's a waste of time perusing hundreds of domains and placing orders at multiple registrars.

Is WHC considering opening TBR to the public?

I hope not, as that would knock another registrar off my list for mid-range TBR domains.

This "Let Everyone Bid on Everything" plan sounds great on the surface, and it might be for the top of the very top premium domains, but I'm not going to be giving my hard deep-dive work out to a bunch of lazy nitwits for free and would obviously preorder my non-premiums elsewhere where they still respect my privacy.

And if every registrar goes this route, I think it has the potential to cook the golden goose over the long term. If everyone can bid, then none of us wins.

And one other point against this new trend.

Companies like WHC make only a tiny portion of their revenue from the TBR, so they want you on their site preordering domains, checking the list, monitoring it for changes, increasing bids, etc. so they can advertise, promote and sell you other products. That's just business, and I don't know any TBR registrar whose sole source of income is the TBR.

So if most TBR users start "keeping a shell account just in case they win something good" and never interact with the site otherwise, then that totally defeats the purpose of their TBR sideline creating more long-term and valuable WHC (or other registars) customers that regularly use the site.
