As some of you may know I have purchased a few catalogs and have cherry picked the best domains from them for one of my portfolios.
I have started the process of allowing most of the .net's to expire and there are hundreds of them at numerous registrars. Based upon my previous history with .net domains I have decided I want no part of this extension, it's a money pit at best.
That said I also have about 1200 .com's that I'm not sure if I'm going to keep. I'm going to renew them all for 1 year and then review the traffic stats before deciding what to drop. They are registered at numerous registrars and I am going to amalgamate them at one registrar but one with a big big big condition.
The registrar cannot be part of the godaddy aftermarket network, the registrar has to be independent so when the domains drop they can be reregistered by ordinary people or totally off the godaddy grid. With what godaddy has done with the nameservers and the 25% commission I want to make sure they make no additional income on me.
Everything I have left sitting at godaddy is meant to expire but I have removed anything of value and since they cannot utilize any .ca's (because of TBR) that part is easy. I plan to offer the .net domain for free as they get closer to expiry but with the condition they cannot be registered at godaddy. If you don't like that you won't get one PERIOD.
I also need to research .xyz .io .org .ai .us - I have a few miscellaneous extensions and I want to assure they don't end up at godaddy auction.
My main concern posting this topic is that domains registered at godaddy, and numerous other registrars, automatically end up at godaddy auction at zero cost to them. First they charge us 25% commission and then they profit 100% from our expiries.
The only way for us to show them our displeasure is to remove our domains entirely from the godaddy network and to assure our expiries also stay off their platform.
I am leading by example and godaddy has lost virtually all mapledots business and that of three other catalogs I purchased in the last year. For my .ca's I have chosen WHC but now I have to find out where to best place an additional 1,200 .com's that have an assurance they will not end up at godaddy, or the godaddy aftermarket network, if I let them expire a year from now.
