Why has the number of visits to DAN soared? (1.Viewing)

The domain name placed on DAN suddenly has a surge in visits on certain days.

Does anyone know why?

Obviously nothing was done.

Probably busy bots

It looks like someone, probably RLM or similar, is running scripts from old TBR results to see what happened to the domains (For Sale and Where, Sold or In Use by a Company, 404/Not Resolving, etc.) for their own devious purposes.

I'm getting long sequences of Dan hits that correspond exactly to registration date, so it's pretty obvious what is going on.

Time is money so why else? OCD?

I mean, someone is clearly looking for information and taking the time and effort to compile that information, so it must be valuable for their own individual purposes, as otherwise why do it?

Well I certainly wouldn't characterize the reviewing of public information in order to glean trends, look for bargains, etc, as being devious. In my book devious means deceitful or underhanded, and it seems that's how you intended it. And that is strange since you keep meticulous historical TBR records yourself and periodically ask me to backfill those records for you when you accidentally forget to archive a particular week's data. So are you devious or just OCD?

And for the record, that isn't me, I'm not looking at dan data, I gave up on them as potentially being useful a long time ago.

Most likely those are just rogue bots looking for common software vulnerabilities that Dan's filters haven't weeded out yet. Counting the small percentage of real traffic from the massive cesspool of true scamming/hacker based bot traffic that dominates the internet is a never ending job. So when some new exploits are being scanned for by bots that isn't yet being filtered out, it can look like spikes in traffic across many different domain names you own.

The only reason I wanted the complete TBR data is because I was intending to add it to the DR site at some point in time (I stopped posting the Results when I stopped posting Picks), but due to additional work demands and the growth of my portfolio, I have shelved the site for now and will probably can it entirely.

And my "devious" comment was obviously a joke, with me imagining you or Maple cackling away as you gather more and more data. Hahahah! People can input the TBR results data all day and night for all I care.

And as for it being rogue 'bots, that's impossible as I sort mine using "Recently Viewed" and I can see blocks of 50-100 domains (over a very short period of time) that are all TBR domains and all are in date order (as per my 'added to Dan' date) so it's 100% someone tracking TBR lists in order. This week's activity was all 2020-2021 TBR data BTW.

No rogue 'bot looking for site vulnerabilities is that precise.
